Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster thinks Apple will introduce new iPods and new model laptop at a special event in September. It's not entirely speculation - the analyst observes Apple to have held such an event for the last three years. And while the analyst doesn't expect an iPhone nano or MacBook touch to appear at the show, he does anticipate some major revisions of Apple laptops. Munster predicts redesigned MacBooks at lower prices, along with a redesigned MacBook Pro. "We note that the MacBook has had the same design since its launch over two years ago, and the MacBook Pro has had essentially the same design since its launch over 2.5 years ago, which was very similar in design to the PowerBook G4 released over 5.5 years ago," he told clients.

Analyst Keith Bachman with BMO Capital Markets this week issued a note to investors in which he said Apple will finally update its MacBook Air line next month. According to the Barron's reports. Analyst Keith Bachman sees the company will launch MacBook Air, iPods or iPod touch expecting two models. Bachman doesn't offer too many details but does foresee a price droptwo new units in September.

When you think of the Apple Macintosh, you might think of a smooth-running, elegantly designed, though comparatively expensive, laptop or desktop computer that is used largely in homes. But can Macs also play a part in the workplace? The answer seems to be, increasingly, yes. For instance, the Orange County, Calif., Sheriff's Department recently purchased 175 iMacs and MacBook laptops, which will work within the department's Microsoft Windows environment. "They are used in regular office space for all types of assignments," said Assistant Sheriff James McDonald.  "We also use them in the training room and we use some for video editing and podcasting."
