Hello everyone, I am the other host this week that Richard was talking about earlier today. This week we are reviewing rule # 8 tilted "Stressed brains don't learn the same way". I found a video by Airel Garten CEO of Interaxon titled Know thyself with a brain scanner. Interaxon creates thought controlled computing hardware and applications. This video really captured my imagination on how we as humans can control our own mind and environment. Imagine one day the ability to lower stress levels by accessing an application in order to release pleasure chemicals like dopamine into the brain. I can also image walking into a room and instantaneously with just one though your environment would change for your needs. Let's say you need to decompress or if you need cheering up etc. The possibilities are endless with this technology.

    Questions Section?

    1. Some say that this technology would dehumanize us! Do you agree/disagree? Why?
    2. Do you believe that this quest of automation is too ambitious? Why?
    3. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement Intra-active technology is just another word for mind control? If so Why?
    4. Is it possible that this technology help people with autism or anyone with a learning disability?

I realize most people would be skeptical Jackie about the technology. One can only image the positive implications this technology can have in our daily lives. One example that comes to mind is a child that is autistic and with the help of this technology can now communicate with his parents. What parent with an autistic child if they had the resources would not pay top dollar in a heartbeat to be able to communicate with their child.

I agree Richard music can make a big difference in your buying patterns.I remember last Christmas I walked into a store in the mall I think it was called journey and the sales rep had the music blasting with heavy metal music and I left because it was annoying to listen to.

I cannot study with music on or any kind or even loud sounds. Both of my daughters can do it and it amazes me that they can I on the other hand cannot. If I am driving long distances I usually have the radio loud for the reason of keeping me awake.Although,If I am driving the same long distances easy to listening tunes will have the opposite effect on me.

I guest some of the music that annoys me I would consider noise.I realize though it is based on my interpretation of what noise is !

    Katy,
I completed a Mooc course last semester and did receive my certificate. The problem I encountered was the same that you stated I was half a point from receiving a certificate that stated exemplary certificate. I was very disappointed because I was always on task and never late in any of my assignments but to no avail.I feel your pain Katy!

The great thing about MOOC's is it fosters peer to peer collaboration. Last semester I took a Mooc course and I did not have any interaction with the instructor it was all student base collaboration. The final grade was graded by your peers let me tell you they graded a lot harder than would any instructor. Additionally, I learned a lot by other students and my experience was awesome.

I like Sir Kenneth Robinson definition of creativity "The process of having original ideas that have value". I use parallel definition to motivate students when there are looking for a full time job. I explain to the students to remember to describe during the interview process their work value and not so much what they were responsible for while at work. Rule number four applies in this situation "we don't pay attention to boring things" neither do recruiters. If students start explaining during the interview all of their responsibilities on the job recruiters will tune out.
