This article explores previous, current and future leadership needs of Atlanta, Georgia. Interestingly enough, it is delivered in a tone and style less traditional to political commentary than I am used to.

Putting A Definitive End to Dilbert-Style Management - Steve Denning - RETHINK - Forbes - 0 views

So my question is this...Can you take care of the employees and not create a "country club" environment but create delighted customers? I think they have the idea flipped. I think you can definitely take care of the customers and never provide an environment for your employees. This is where leadership sets itself apart from management.

Although this is just a snippet, it is a nice resource to file away with our Northouse readings. Personally, #3 rang true to me as I don't think it's possible to be a strong leader without awareness to your teams' responses, reactions and own motivators.

"March 7, 2011 (Notre Dame, Ind.)-Saint Mary's College is proud to announce that its first scholarly journal, published by the Center for Women's Intercultural Leadership (CWIL), went live online today. The Journal of Women's Intercultural Leadership (JWIL), which can be found at www.saintmarys.edu/cwil/jwil, is an extension of CWIL's mission to empower women to realize their call to leadership and to develop the intercultural knowledge and competence critical in today's increasingly interdependent world." - Sounds good to me! I wish I could say it better, but they've already summed it up well.

Eli Stone (TV Series 2008-2009) - IMDb - 0 views

  •
In this series Eli Stone works for a law firm who has built their success on representing the clients that provide the largest payouts, the most media coverage and potential for future legal engagements that perpetuate the first two criteria. As Eli Stone takes on less prestigious, less financially beneficial and more morally grounded cases, the partners react. The firm is eventually split in two as one partner chooses the high yet substantially more difficult road and two leave with more than half of the staff to maintain a law firm with the previous standards and expectations. This show demonstrates how leaders and followers react when there are dramatic changes to vision, moral standards, financial motives and leaderships reactions to these things.

Utilizing primary source documents by Lincoln; historical examination of Lincoln, the people around Lincoln and the current events; and contemporary theories and examinations on leadership, Phillips writes an applicable text on leadership centered on Abraham Lincoln. This is not simply an examination of Lincoln's leadership "qualities," but a text written to be a resource for self-development.

Wis. Senate leader: No cop would arrest Dems - chicagotribune.com - 0 views

  •
In my search for an article, this particular one popped up simply because of the keyword, "leader." As I read though it a second time though, it occurred to me that although short, this article lifts up leadership in a variety of angles. The politicians are operating out of transactional leadership, while the police agencies seem to be operating out of transformational leadership. This may seem like a stretch, but the moral high ground appears to be the focus for decision-making by the police agencies.

Marcus Buckingham Interview - 0 views

  • Leaders don’t make more right decisions. They just make more decisions.
  • What sets real leaders apart is their ability to turn people’s legitimate anxiety about the future into confidence.
  • We need a leader to tell us: Who, precisely, do we serve? What is our core strength? Of the many things we can measure in our business, which one measure of success should we focus on? And, what specific actions can we take right now to improve our business?
  • ...6 more annotations...
  • you have to understand it through the impact a leader has on followers.
  • When leaders lead well, it’s because they’re able to rally people to a better future and make people spirited when they were previously anxious.
  • The message from most companies is that you should want to be a leader, and if you don’t there’s something wrong with you.
  • Leadership isn’t about that at all. Leadership is about finding the words, stories, and images that bring great clarity to people. And that’s just different from being a good manager. You could have both talents, but good managers don’t necessarily make good leaders.
  • Most leaders don’t see clarity as their primary job
  • A leader needs to be specific.
