Her story is similar to mine in that I was already on a career track, but now switching to Game Design. Hopefully I will be as passionate about the field as she is.
I enjoyed this video. Its one of several videos I watched a few months ago when I enrolled in the Game Design program and began researching what game design was all about. The block out phase provoked me to have a flash back of my Army days. There was a time or two where I spent my entire 12 hour shift making blocked out designs. Now I just need to play more games. :)
Reminds me of Autodesk software: 123 where one takes pictures and creates 3D models from it. Except I'd love to be able to have this technology- we're getting so close to creating something real! It's amazing!
This is a big database of awesome knowledge! If you go to the right of the page you'll see a pink link that says "all topics", you can filter the videos to start to narrow down to what you need for this assignment, which admittedly might not help much since the terms are somewhat "team building business-y". Or, you can try going up to the top right where the magnifying glass icon is and doing a search for your degree and from there filter it further by videos. You may also want to hang onto this website for other assignments like 2.1 Industry Growth or even 3.0 Networking Plan (events, mentors, etc.).

When game designer Jane McGonigal found herself bedridden and suicidal following a severe concussion, she had a fascinating idea for how to get better. She dove into the scientific research and created the healing game, SuperBetter. In this moving talk, McGonigal explains how a game can boost resilience -- and promises to add 7.5 minutes to your life.
Games like World of Warcraft give players the means to save worlds, and incentive to learn the habits of heroes. What if we could harness this gamer power to solve real-world problems? Jane McGonigal says we can, and explains how.
Games are invading the real world -- and the runaway popularity of Farmville and Guitar Hero is just the beginning, says Jesse Schell. At the DICE Summit, he makes a startling prediction: a future where 1-ups and experience points break "out of the box" and into every part of our daily lives.
Game designer David Perry says tomorrow's videogames will be more than mere fun to the next generation of gamers. They'll be lush, complex, emotional experiences -- more involving and meaningful to some than real life. With an excerpt from Michael Highland's film "As Real as Your Life."
Video game designer Jane McGonigal argues that games are not a waste of time. In fact, she argues, "we need to look at what games are doing for gamers, the skills that we're developing, the relationships that we're forming, the heroic qualities that we get to practice every time we play, like resilience, like perseverance, and grit, and determination, like having epic ambitions and the ability to work with other players, sometimes thousands of other players at the same time."
