This website is a collection of manuscripts, letters, maps, printed pamphlets, etc. ranging from 1943 through the present time. This site seems to mainly focus on the Revolution, Civil War, and Reconstruction eras. One nice feature for educators is their unit lessons on popular historical events in history. Each unit is provided with visual aids, primary sources, and other learning tools associated with the topic.

It also allows the user to access historic documents by collection or access through online exhibitions and encouraging the use of interactive learning tools such as videos, testimony, and timelines. The site also provides students with the neat opportunity to submit their work into essay contests and compete against students from all over the United States.

America's Story from America's Library - 1 views

This would be a great site for more elementary aged students, there's a lot of good information but not enough to overwhelm younger kids. You can look at profiles of different famous people, get information on the states, look at different time periods and also look at games, hobbies and music, which would probably appeal to kids. One feature I thought was unique was where you could enter your birthday and it would bring up information for that date.
  •
A great website to introduce young students to the world of non-fiction and primary source material. The website is colorful and easy to navigate. Students can learn about a variety of people, places and events in American history.

This website's main focus is centered on the history and culture of California and the role it played in national and world history. Calisphere includes photographs, diaries, recorded oral history, cultural artifacts, documents, etc. I feel this is a great resource, even for teachers not living in California, because of the variety of information presented and the prevalence of primary and secondary sources of our nation's history.
  •
This website has many different topics.  I like that they include topics like assembly lines and other important pieces of history that are not always featured on other sites.  Most topics that I look at included many images which students will love.

One hundred documents which reflect important events in American history. This site reflects the diversity and unity within our culture and its focus is highlighting, celebrating, and creating discussion that diversity and unity. It is not simply an archive of a broad collection of documents, but rather an archive which represents a vast range of American experiences.

This site features 100 documents from American history from 1776 to 1965. The list includes public laws, Supreme Court decisions, inaugural speeches, treaties, constitutional amendments, and others. They were chosen because of their role in shaping our country. I would use this site with 5th graders learning American history, but it could also be useful for middle or high schoolers. I like that they have narrowed down the documents to only those that were most influential.
  •
Our documents includes 100 Milestone American historical documents compiled to span United States historical events from 1776-1965. Documents can be accessed by listing/year or visual/digital scroll bar. This resource would be valuable for intermediate elementary students through high school students as well as educators. Primary sources would be beneficial in U.S./American history and government education.
  •
This website has many primary and government documents relating to the history of the United States.  One area that I really enjoyed exploring was the tools for educators.  Under that section, they had many tips for librarians such as creating book displays, bulletin board ideas, and a link to a poster so staff and students can vote on the most important American history documents.

America's Story from America's Library - 4 views

This site is interactive with options to research famous Americans, learn about events in the past, learn about the different states, and even listen to old songs and video clips. I watched a video of a gymnastic routine in 1894. They called it "Early Break Dancing". This site has appealing visuals and is easy to maneuver. There are also questions that engage the learner. I think this would be a fun site for students.
  •

Avalon Project - Documents in Law, History and Diplomacy - 3 views

  •
This is a collection of documents on law, history, and diplomacy. In World History we talk about many of these documents, so it would be interesting to have students read them and try to imagine how it felt to be a part of that event or history. For example, students can read the Balfour declaration to decide how Jews might react to it, and how Palestinians might react to it.
