5th graders learn about explorers in social studies and we do a research unit in media.  This site is very cool because it has actual documents that contain personal accounts by American explorers, Indians, missionaries, traders and settlers.  I love reading the actual words from these famous pioneers from long ago.  I think it gives kids something "real" to relate to when studying history.

This is so amazing and moving. There are links to various types of artifacts concerning 9/11. There are audio recordings of people who have lost loved ones or who lived in the area and all types of things. I think this would be a great way to bring 9/11 alive for students. By listening to what life was like before and how it felt after 9/11.

On this website you can search different topics about Nebraska history.  I think this would be very helpful for fourth grade students because they study Nebraska.  

This source provides Nebraska specific resources for individuals.  It offers keyword searchable documents and the database of information is being added to regularly.  It is a dynamic resource on Nebraska history. 

Not only does this site have primary sources in text, audio, video, and images, but also, silent movies, archived web pages, historical software, and animation/cartoons. Grades 1-12 could easily find interesting primary sources for their projects. Students will enjoy an occasional old cartoon, like Why We Have Elections, that teaches about the election process, and can be taught about primary sources, too.

There are all kinds of activities to help learn how to read and analyze letters, photographs, songs, cartoons, etc. On other parts of the site, you can find primary sources documenting American past.

The museum of Edgar Allan Poe collection database includes primary source documents such as letters, photos, and personal/family items. This is a good literary resource for middle and high school students-complete with teacher and student resources. Great opportunity for English/Language Arts department and library collaboration.

It provides text and video information along with teacher resources and classroom materials. I think this would be a great site for a middle to high school science classes.

The United States Census Bureau provides population, economic, and geographic resources. This site would benefit students and educators in social studies, mathematics, economics, and geography. Interesting features include comparisons among resources and the U.S./World population clocks. There are various methods of accessing information (by state, region, use of data tools, etc.).

This site, created by the Smithsonian museums, offers information and activities on a variety of topics in history, science, and the arts. It has activities for teachers to do with their class as well as ones students can do on their own.

This is a website created by the U.S. Energy Information Administration to educate kids on anything and everything having to do with energy and electricity. It would be a great resource for the sixth grade energy unit. It has a teacher section with activities for classrooms as well.

This is a great resource for kids to explore the different ecosystems and animals that live there.

The Louisiana Digital Library features digital collections of maps, manuscripts (letters, diaries, etc.), images/photos, video/audio recordings, newspapers and more. Collections can be accessed by topic, institution, media format, geographic focus, and time period. The time period collection includes a great visual time line with prominent historical events featured for easy acquisition. This would be useful for student/educator historical research; jazz music and New Orleans culture as well as state hurricane information. Many collections would be beneficial in establishing of geographic/cultural context for several literature connections.

This site provides recordings from important figures in American history. Most are from 1899-1945, and deal mainly with World War II. This would be a wonderful resource for anyone studying this era of history, especially for auditory learners. Other parts of the site share written primary source documents and photographs as well.

As an Nebraskan its important to use the information given by the state historical society. It is a direct resource for all things Nebraska.
