This website would be great for upper elementary or even middle school when learning about different ways to recycle and also about things that are not good for the environment. There are teacher resources as well as a game where students get to be the new city manager and help clean up the town by picking up litter and recycling. By clicking on different parts of the town they learn about harful and beneficial items. Kids do need to be able to read well to play this game which is why I think it would be best for upper elementary.

I thought this was a good resources for documents dealing with the Holocaust. The online exhibitions are on many different topics and cover a lot of information. They include photographs, video, audio, maps, and transcripts of interviews. Each subject topic also has listing of related publications and websites for each subject. There is also a Holocaust Encyclopedia and a learning site for students specifically where you can browse different subject areas or by document type. One that I found interesting was browsing by ID cards where you can look at different individuals and it would give their photo and story and background information.

This is a portal with a plethora of great links. There is a full page of links for educators and then drop-down menus that separate K-6 and 7-12. In the drop-down menus, there are links to entire pages of websites devoted to topics like the government, history, the military, math, and science. Many of the sites contain government documents.

This site has some great local photos. It really documents the development of the Omaha area and various events throughout Omaha's history. It would be a great place to have fourth grade browse for local history.

shmoop claims to "speak student."  I think this is a great site for kids who are trying to understand their topic of choice.  There are some primary source links embedded within the text of each subject.  The high interest topics of study makes this site usable for students doing research.

This site offers primary sources, lesson plans, digital narratives and a host of other features for the classroom. It would be a great asset to anyone studying the American South.

Time For Kids is a great source of information for kids to keep up on current news stories.  They cover the US and around the world.  They feature kid reporters and have a homework helper section.

The National Gallery of Art (NGA) website provide a unique resource page to connect art and other areas of curriculum. The resources finder allows you to search by curriculum, topic, or artist. These searches provide you with student activities, teacher lesson plans, biographies, and the artwork to accompany them. The NGA has a loan program available.

The Holocaust Memorial Center has facinating primary resources which include oral testimonies, art, and photos. This resource provides powerful personal connections between the artifacts and the researcher. Materials would be appropriate for students in grades 6-12 studying the holocaust, history, or comparison/contrast with global current events involving genocide . Educator and student resources are available.

This site provide political cartoon created by Herb Block from the last 70 years. Each political cartoon is accompanied by a description including the date published, materials used, and a description of current events. Political cartoons are a great references source to teaching history, satire, and communications.

This site is a collection of songs from early American History, including the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and westward expansion after the war. This would be useful for a unit on any of those eras, especially for a music teacher, however it could be used by a classroom teacher or school librarian as well. I think listening to music from the past really helps students get a better feel for what it was like then. They may be able to picture that time and place in their mind a little clearer while listening to music they would have heard then.

The Library of Congress website is an outstanding resource for anyone looking for any kind of imformation. Its outstanding in giving you numerous engines to use without having to leave the comfort of your home or classroom. It's important for all educators to be aware of the amount of useful primary sources and information that can befound throughout the website.

Brain Pop is an amazing website, I enjoy going through each of the different sections checking out the infromation given. I think K-8 would get the most good out of the information and layout given.

National History Day offers primary sources for world history. Students and educators from 5-12 grade can use this site to find information on many regions around the world. Teachers can use the Classroom Connection section to find information that fits into their standards, a repository can be used to find primary resources for specific regions and time periods.

PrimaryAccess is a wonderful web 2.0 tool that allows students to search for primary documents, particularly images and audio, and input them into Moviemaker, Storyboard, or Rebus Poem.  All of the options are some form of digital storytelling that helps students understand pieces of our history and communicate the information in their own words.

At this site you can find primary-source based activities for grades 1-12 already created or create you own for the teaching of history, historical comprehension, and critical thinking skills. Thousands of documents can also be found using the National History Standards categories.

This is the teacher site of the Library of Congress. Here you can locate primary sources by topic sets, topic, state, and theme. You can also access their web guide which contains extensive online resources for teachers and students of individuals, events, eras, and historical documents. This site is also a portal to using, citing, teaching, and analyzing primary sources, finding classroom materials to match state standards, lesson plans, activities, news & events, professional development, FAQs, and additional resources, like slide shows and handouts from past Library of Congress events.

Choose the topic about 9/11 you want to search for, grade level and subject to find information and primary sources about the September 11 attacks. 

This site is a collection of 100 milestone documents that was compiled by the National Archives and Records Administration. The documents are from U.S. history from 1776 to 1965. This site has some great ideas and tips for teachers and librarians as well.

This is a good site with lots of world history documents. You can search by region or time period. This site also has a guide for how to analyze the various types of primary sources, each of the guides include an introduction, questions to ask and some additonal resources.
