A science topic that is bound to grab and hold onto everyone's attention is outer space. NASA offers four versions of their student site: K-4, 5-8, 9-12, and higher education. Each version offers some basic "must-haves" for primary sources such as photo libraries, videos, and a link to NASA-TV. In addition, there are games to motivate students, career profiles (to help students see what steps are necessary if they want to become an astronaut), and "Homework Topics" to help students extend their learning. There is also a great NASA Kids Club that is available!

This site teaches far more than history to our students. The photos, documents, and first-hand accounts of the Holocaust and World War II are presented in a way that encourages students to see others as people; not by color, nationality, ability, etc. This is an ideal way to give students primary material to improve their social/cultural literacy as well as emotional literacy. It is powerful and poignant, a site that could benefit any student, intermediate age and higher.

This website is a collection of manuscripts, letters, maps, printed pamphlets, etc. ranging from 1943 through the present time. This site seems to mainly focus on the Revolution, Civil War, and Reconstruction eras. One nice feature for educators is their unit lessons on popular historical events in history. Each unit is provided with visual aids, primary sources, and other learning tools associated with the topic. 

The Gilder Lehrman Institute provides users access to information regarding American history. The sight provides a tab that allows the user to search by era (i.e.) The Civil War or World War II. It also allows the user to access historic documents by collection or access through online exhibitions and encouraging the use of interactive learning tools such as videos, testimony, and timelines. The site also provides students with the neat opportunity to submit their work into essay contests and compete against students from all over the United States.

This website offers a wide variety of source documents relating to American history, such as photos, maps, letters, diary excerpts and pamphlets, from the 1400's through today.

The Smithsonian Collections has a vast collection of objects, documents, photos, etc. ranging from ancient civilizations to current historical events. According to the Smithsonian website there are "7.4 million digital records available online through the Collections Search Center." This site would be a great resource for students when searching for primary documents. 

The Smithsonian is the world's largest museum and research complex that provides materials for educators, students, and researchers and allows the user to make connections while providing a multitude of activities and instruction to learn from. This site allows its users to access a plethora of information from different tabs and links allowing its users to explore research centers, exhibitions, events, cultural programs, collections, museums and zoos through interactive tools, links, videos and websites. Smithsonian also provides a newsroom that feeds updates and information about the Smithsonian.

One of the greatest museums in the entire world. The website is great for middle school-high schools. It brings history to each and every person who accesses it. No longer do you have to travel so far to learn so much. It would be a great use to students looking for primary resouces.

This site would be of interest to more visual learners, as well as anyone trying to get an image of a historical event. While most of these are digitized images, you can also see whether or not the original is in the Library of Congress archives. In my opinion this gives more credibility to the digitized item. Everyone can get some use from a picture - P-12.

First hand accounts, illustrated with vintage photos, original radio broadcasts. Great source for biographical accounts, cultural views of specific eras. Could be used for the Rendevous project.

The NMAH Collections found at this website could be used for both students and teachers of all ages. This is a great way for students to see some of the artifacts in the Smithsonian. For example,a digital photo of cast iron shoes worn by a chemist can be viewed. There is also a nice timeline feature where the user can select an era and a timeline with artifacts from that time period appear. When the user clicks on the artifact, a larger picture pops up along with a description of the item and a link to the Smithsonian collection in which it is found.

This site would be great for high school students! Students can research primary documents or they can look at online exhibits of various topics that have already been compiled. When looking at the exhibits, an explanation is given and then various photos and videos are shown. This is a great resource for primary documents!

The National Archives site allows users to find primary sources within the seven categories found under "Research by Topic". Students and teachers would use this site mostly for social studies, history, and science. I was able to find mostly photos, but some other documents as well. This could be used for any age group, but I think most of the content would be for middle or high school students.

At this website, users will find photos, diary entries, patents, and other artifacts documenting the inventions of the Wright brothers. I think that this site could be used by students in grades 4-12. Science and history teachers would find this site most useful. I thought that it was a little easier for younger users to navigate than some of the other sites I have found.

The museum of Edgar Allan Poe collection database includes primary source documents such as letters, photos, and personal/family items. This is a good literary resource for middle and high school students-complete with teacher and student resources. Great opportunity for English/Language Arts department and library collaboration.

The Holocaust Memorial Center has facinating primary resources which include oral testimonies, art, and photos. This resource provides powerful personal connections between the artifacts and the researcher. Materials would be appropriate for students in grades 6-12 studying the holocaust, history, or comparison/contrast with global current events involving genocide . Educator and student resources are available.

Nebraska Legislature site is the official resource for the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature. Resources include transcripts and photos along with the Nebraska Blue Book. This would be appropriate for students in the fourth grade through high school for social studies and local government/historical information. The students and teachers section is divided nicely for easy access.

Digital History:Explorations is a resource with time period/theme specific "webquests" for both students and teachers. Primary source documents (photos, documents, letters, etc.) along with teacher resources and lesson plans make this an excellent multiple literacies must for teachers and school librarians.

The Nebraska Partnership for American History Education provides a variety of primary source resources by theme, time period, photos (1850-1938), and bibliographic collections. This site is useful for Nebraska history, United States history, women's history, Native & African American histories. It would definitely be appropriate for intermediate elementary students through high school students and all educators (lesson plans can be found here).

This site was created by the National Oceanic and Atmopshperic Association in an effort to share photographs collected by the personnel who work for the agency. This would be a great site for students to collect visual artifacts (past and present) for assignments dealing with weather events and ocean life.
