  •
"A computing device for every teacher and student so they can access the Internet at school or at home? That, along with an embrace of cloud computing, Creative Commons, and open-source technologies is part of a new set of recommendations from the U.S. Department of Education. On March 5, the department released an 80-page draft of its National Educational Technology Plan entitled Transforming Education: Learning Powered by Technology. The plan lays out an ambitious agenda for transforming teaching and learning through technology."

How To Cite Social Media In Scholarly Writing - 0 views

  •
"Back in 2012, we shared how to cite a tweet. We followed that up with how to cite an app. So when we saw the very useful teachbytes graphic above making some noise on pinterest on several different popular #edtech websites, it reminded us of the constant demands changing technologies place on existing ways we do business. When and in what contexts it makes sense to cite social media content is probably a more relevant post than sharing a graphic that simply shows the format, but they're both nice to have, yes? Citation Style Of course, citation style matters, and the two most popular are the APA and MLA. The APA (American Psychological Association) has their rules for citing social media in academic writing. They even have a thorough ($12) guide to clarify the process, while the MLA (Modern Language Association), as far as we can tell, has yet to expressly address apps and social media as anything other than "software." And to an extent, this makes sense. As media becomes more nuanced, new modalities emerge, authors use new channels to distribute their thinking-and even as the "crowd" becomes a legitimate source of information (see wikipedia, twitter, erc.), new rules for governing that reality will continue to emerge. The more general those rules are, the less reactive governing bodies will have to be moment by moment."

What's Hot, What's Not in 2016 -- THE Journal - 0 views

  •
"The four panelists in THE Journal's annual end-of-year survey hit full consensus on just two of 11 topics - giving the "hot" label unanimously to "blended learning" and "student data privacy concerns." Meanwhile, e-portfolios garnered the least amount of enthusiasm, with two panelists opting for "losing steam" and two for "lukewarm." Other topics formed a mixed bag, with the "lukewarm" rating suggesting that many technologies/techniques are holding steady, if not exactly lighting the education world on fire."

"If someone follows you in Twitter, the polite thing to do is reciprocate, right? Well, maybe so, but I think it needs a little more thought than that. Here is a list of the steps I take when someone follows me. Incidentally, the same techniques, with a bit of adjustment, work for any social network situation where people can become your "friend""

Unless you've been living under rock throughout the 'Noughties' YouTube is quite simply the world's largest collection of video content and as an educator it is an amazing resource that you SHOULD NOT be without. I say should because I appreciate that not all teachers can access YouTube at your school for either political or technical reasons. "

6 Free Tools to Convert Youtube Videos to MP3 ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning - 0 views

  •
Now that mobile devices are ubiquitous, some people still find it hard to download their favourite music or audio files. This is due to the fact that most of the portable devices do not support some of the video formats available online now. As a solution , here is a list of some of the best free tools you can use to convert Youtube videos into MP3. You might ask me why Youtube and not other video platforms. The answer is quite obvious, Youtube is number 1 video resource for internet users according to the latest statistics in this field. I also opted for Youtube because most of educators use it as a resource and it would be great if they can now convert some of its content to MP3 to embed in their mobile devices for sharing with their colleagues or students.

  •
"Let's face it: most school websites are pretty boring. True, some have improved a lot in the last few years, but they're mainly the exception that proves the rule. Looking at most school websites is like taking a trip back in time. No interactivity, no sense of community, no updates for weeks, if not months. In short, no life."

Stages of PLN adoption | The Thinking Stick - 0 views

  •
"David Warlick wrote a post the other day about being able to zip up or turn off your Personal Learning Network (PLN). I too have been thinking about how one goes about starting a PLN, how do you monitor it, and how do you learn to shut it off. We all continue to push teachers to start PLNs if they haven't already. Learning from the collective knowledge of educators around the world."
