Free online file converter - 2 views

Very neat website that converts files for you FREE. Upload a file to the server and tell it the format you want it converted to. In a very short time, you get an email and a link for your converted file
  •
I've used this, too, and it's excellent. Very useful for saving Youtube videos that you may want to use in the future or integrate into Powerpoints, etc. I have found, though, that wait times for the converted file vary from 10 minutes to about 12 hours, so don't rely on it for next block's presentation.

The overblown crisis in American education : The New Yorker - 2 views

It should raise questions when an enormous, complicated realm of life takes on the characteristics of a stock drama. In the current school-reform story, there is a reliable villain, in the form of the teachers' unions, and a familiar set of heroes, including Geoffrey Canada, of Harlem Children's Zone; Wendy Kopp, of Teach for America, the Knowledge Is Power Program; and Michele Rhee, the superintendent of schools in Washington, D.C. And there is a clear answer to the problem-charter schools.

The Future of Social Media in Journalism - 2 views

  • Journalism has often been done from the top of a mountain — journalists would tell the community what they need to know. Today, much of the news has become a conversation, and journalists are being required to do as much listening to the community as they broadcast to them.

Sounds like journalism and education have a lot in common?

VoiceThread Extends the Classroom with Interactive Multimedia Albums | Edutopia - 2 views

  •
Bill Ferriter knew his sixth-grade language arts and social studies students spent time online outside of class, surfing the Web and instant messaging. So when he discovered he could engage his kids online in a collaborative, multimedia slide show called a VoiceThread, he decided to see if he could use it to, as he puts it, "steal some of their online minutes."
