Shakhtar Donetsk 2 - Werder Bremen 1UEFA Cup final, May 20, 2009 After a bright start in Istanbul, it was Shakhtar who struck first after 25 minutes, Werder were slow to react at the back as Rat threaded a pass through to Luiz Adriano, who raced away down the middle before coolly clipping the ball over the advancing Tim Wiese. Werder levelled thanks to a handling howler from Shakhtar keeper Andriy Pyatov, who found Naldo's powerful free-kick too hot to stop as the ball trickled over the line. After a far quieter second half which produced no goals the match moved to extra time, where Jadson converted a Darijo Srna cross from the right hand side to hand Shakhtar the lead for the second time.
Arsenal 1 - Manchester United 3 Champions League semi-final second-leg, May 5, 2009 United killed the tie inside 10 minutes. A terrible slip by Kieron Gibbs allowed a Ronaldo cross to reach Park Ji-Sung after 6 minutes and the South Korean made no mistake beating Almunia. Minutes later Cristiano Ronaldo silenced the Emirates with a stunning free-kick that left Almunia grabbing a fresh air. Wayne Rooney forced a finger-tip save from Almunia as United looked for a third.Almunia made another terrific save to deny Ronaldo at the start of the second half. On the hour mark United scored a brilliant third. Breaking out of defence from a corner, Ronaldo started a lightening move which Rooney carried up-field, the number 10 returning the ball back into Ronaldo's path with the Portuguese forward coolly finding the net. 15 minutes from time United's night soured, Darren Fletcher was sent off for a foul on Fabregas in the box, with Robin van Persie scoring a superb penalty.

Athletic Bilbao 1 - Barcelona 4 Copa Del Rey final, May 13, 2009 Much to the joy of the romantics it was Atletico Bilbao, not Barcelona, who struck first in the Copa Del Rey final when Gaizka Toquero headed home a back-post corner from Francisco Yeste. On the half hour Yaya Toure drew Barca level with a low shot that deflected into the near post. The Catalans took control of the match early in the second half, Leo Messi converted a rebound before Bojan Krkic slipped in a beautiful third off the far post. A super free-kick from Xavi made it three goals in five minutes to kill the match. The match was soured when Dani Alves was struck on the head by a beer can thrown by a Bilbao supporter.
