"Life of a Rose" is the first channelled song/prayer of a new series of in-situ improvisations (part of Marlia's Earth Gridding New Earth project). Today's Libra full moon is helping out with the official release of my new song "Palisandros" (meaning "Rosewood", one of the main kinds of tonal wood used in traditional instrument-making), which I have been procrastinating for some time now, because of how vulnerable and exposed it makes me feel in a lot of many different ways. First and foremost, singing in my native Cypriot dialect; this is the first song I have written in Cypriot. It brings tears to my eyes every single time. Partly I know why; partly I am waiting to explore.. Secondly, there is nothing fancy about this recording; yet the story is interesting: I conceived the melody 3 years ago while rehabilitating from a knee surgery and being hosted in Greece by my dear friend & exceptional guitarist Bill Stathopoulos, I wrote the lyrics while trying it on the piano of my brilliant songsister Arianna Tondo ヅ in Italy, I recorded it with special creature's Benjamin Hedengran Andersen classical guitar in a soundproofless hut in India, I used the chimes, rattles, cajon and djembe belonging to multi-talented musician and top-notch father David Esteban, while shooting the video in the wilderness of the Philippines with charismatic and tribal soulsister Dona Tumacder-Esteban, finally mixing and producing it in the company of my dogs in Cyprus. Lastly, I would like to dedicate this song to mother Earth and the four elements. And I would like this song to be a reminder to all of us: That no matter how tough people wish to look on the outside, remember there is a soft, tender and sensitive part somewhere deep inside them, that got trapped there for one reason or another. Before you know it, you enter a different space inside yourself, feeling free and open to share your voice and feel your heart. This is a group music game, where we use the voice as our instrument. Participants work with voice experimentation and sound production, improvisation and expression through spontaneous interaction. Within a friendly environment we will have the opportunity to discover the full potential of our voice and reconnect with the music nature that exists within us all, right from the moment we are born. We use the vibrations of our voice's sounds for relaxation, release and self-improvement in our personal journey. When using correct breathing, we achieve stability, better focus and greater awareness. Conscious breathing causes an emotionally calming effect. Greetings to the family! After making the decision to fulfil my current 4-month-long Indian/Asian/NZ tour without any other instrument but my voice, this is what I could come up with during my very-much-indeed musical stay in Pai, Thailand, right after the PanSiam gathering 2019. In one of our days there with Leon Christian Karmameleon, between open mics, music performances, singing workshops, private vocal lessons, bonfire circlesinging, spontaneous street/stage improvising, scooter riding and hot spring indulging, we met Tommaso Caenazzo (the owner of this handpan @432hz) at our favourite chai shop and thought we could work a bit on 11/8, plus instrument plus voice! There is a much better video version with regards to the quality of music & sound, however this one is hilarious - at least to me! - so I decided to post this one. A few words about the facilitator: Marlia teaches classical guitar and composes, writes lyrics, arranges and records her songs, sometimes only with natural instruments and sometimes with the help of loopers, samples and effect pedals, where the voice always plays a leading role. She is a teacher and student of yoga and recently released her first independent solo album "Ode to Self" (2017). She also facilitates healing circles of improvised music coexistence through the voice, percussion instruments and dance. _
