"Different from the refined and distilled vinegars usually found in supermarkets, Natural Apple Cider Vinegar is made from fresh, crushed, organically grown apples and allowed to mature in wooden barrels, which boosts its natural fermentation qualities. When mature, it contains a web-like substance, called "mother" that becomes visible when the rich brownish liquid is held to the light. The mother can be used to add to other vinegar to hasten maturity for more Apple Cider Vinegar."

Apple cider vinegar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • It is very popular, partly due to beneficial health and beauty properties.

This is important because this is the main reason why people drink ACV. Despite it's vile smell and digusting taste, people drink it because it's really healthy.
  • Due to its acidity, apple cider vinegar may be very harsh, even burning to the throat. If taken straight (as opposed to use in cooking), it can be diluted (e.g. with fruit juice, honey, or sugar) before drinking.[2] Some dilute it with warm water and add honey.

Bascially, you cannot drink this straight from the cup. You have to dilute it because the vinegar is really strong. If you don't dilute it with another liquid, the vinegar would burn your mouth and esophagus.

Although people usually drink it in liquid form, they can choose to take it in a pill form. But one should be cautious when taking ACV, because it can still burn the stomach.
  • Apple cider vinegar is also an old folk remedy said to clear ailments such as gout, poor complexion and acne, arthritis, candida, high cholesterol, warts, varicose veins, allergies, burns, and other ailments.

ACV is a cure for many things. Not only is it a great supplement to take, it can also be a facewash to clear poor complexion.
  • Unpasteurized or organic apple cider vinegar may have a cob web, congealed appearance. This is natural, formed during the acetification process. This substance is often called "mother of vinegar" which is actually detritus from the bacterial colony.

In the bottle, there are cob web like substance floating around.I'm not sure what this "mother nature" is. I just assume it's parts of the apple that was grinded.

How vinegar can make you thinner - thestar.com - 0 views

"It doesn't seem to matter which vinegar - white, apple cider or even red raspberry - you use. What's critical is that you use vinegar that has 5 per cent acidity (acidity is typically marked on the label)."

I've tried it. It is tangier than regular things we would drink. It's sour and your teeth tingles when you drink it without a straw. You have to dilute it before drinking it or else the taste of the vinegar would be reallly strong.
  • Traditionally served on the Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, it is sometimes heated and spiced, or mulled.

This is important because it supports the idea that there is no scientific evidence that suggests acai berry promotes weight loss.
  • Global demand for the fruit has expanded rapidly in recent years, and açaí is now cultivated for that purpose primarily.

I'm wondering why so many people are falling for the whole acai berry businesses. It has been revealed a long time ago that there is nothing different about acai berry than any other types of berries.
  • Eight species are native to Central and South America, from Belize southward to Brazil and Peru, growing mainly in swamps and floodplains
    • Jeannie EWSIS

The fact that acai berry only grows in brazil is important because this is what makes the price go up so high. It can't be found anywhere in the United States.

  • Recently, the açaí berry has been marketed as a dietary supplement. Companies sell açaí berry products in the form of tablets, juice, smoothies, instant drink p

There have been many products using acai, many of which is just utilizing the popularity.
  • Even web sites purporting to warn about açai-related scams are themselves perpetrating scams

  • According to ABC News correspondent Susan Donaldson, these products have not been evaluated (in the United States) by the FDA, and their efficacy is questionable.

In other words, though the efficacy of acai is questionable, currently there is no way to address this problem because the products haven't been evaluated by the FDA
  • A study in 12 healthy fasted human volunteers demonstrated that blood antioxidant capacity was increased within two hours after consumption of a commercial açaí juice beverage or applesauce.
    • Jeannie EWSIS

This supports that acai does have antioxidants. It is a good fruit, but nothing about it makes it different than other healthy berries.
  • When three commercially available juice mixes containing unspecified percentages of açaí juice were compared for in vitro antioxidant capacity against red wine, tea, six types of pure fruit juice, and pomegranate juice, the average antioxidant capacity was ranked lower than that of pomegranate juice, Concord grape juice, blueberry juice, and red wine
  • Marketers of these products, such as Monarch Health Sciences, parent company of MonaVie, make claims that açaí provides increased energy levels, improved sexual performance, improved digestion, detoxification, high fiber content, improved skin appearance, improved heart health, improved sleep, and reduction of cholesterol levels.

      On what scientific evidence?
  • Quackwatch noted that "açai juice has only middling levels of antioxidants—less than that of Concord grape, blueberry, and black cherry juices, but more than cranberry, orange, and apple juices."
    • Jeannie EWSIS

This is important because they tell you what other fruits have almost the equal amount of antioxidants; means you don't have to spend tons of money on acai
