If you are a singer like me you have no doubt wished you could slow down an MP3 you heard so that it could be easier to learn. I know I have. It turns out that there are programs made specially for slowing down MP3 and other audio recordings. For example, Pitch Switch is an easy to use program that can slow down MP3s, WAV files, M4A (iTunes) and more. Pitch Switch costs only $40 and you can use it on an unlimited number of songs. You just load your MP3 file like you would in any other music software and move the slider around to slow down or speed up the tempo of the MP3. Pitch Switch provides the speed (tempo) in the lower right hand part of the software window.

Pitch Switch can do more than just slow down your MP3s. It can alter the pitch of your MP3s too. You can raise and lower the key of your sound files by one semitone at a time. As you move the sliders the key (and tempo) change in real time, so you can adjust it by ear if you want. Pretty cool stuff.

The next thing I should say is that you can also write your modified songs. Once you slow down a song (or change the pitch) you can store it as a new file and load it on your MP3 player. I highly recommend this software if you're looking for software to slow down your music. There is a free trial for download on their web site at pitch-switch.com.
