It's amazing to think that even though there is no widely-accepted evidence that these inventions have prevented infections or death, hospitals are still spending over $125,000 per machine to attempt to ensure cleanliness.

Rotavirus vaccines - 0 views

The rotavirus is responsible for over 500,000 deaths in children under the age of 5. Vaccinations that have been developed over the last 10 years have significantly reduced the number of deaths in developed countries, but studies still need to be performed to find out the effectiveness in developing countries in Asia and Africa.

First vaccine to help control some autism symptoms - 0 views

  •
A vaccine to combat the microorganism C. bolteae may be the solution for alleviating digestion symptoms often associated with autism. Children with autism have been known to have higher levels of this organism than that of a healthy child. It is assumed that toxins produced by the C. bolteae may be associated with severe symptoms that autistic children typically have, such as diarrhea. I found it ironic that many people still think that vaccines cause autism, and here is a vaccine to assist in alleviating the digestive symptoms associated with it.

Foodborne urinary tract infections: a new paradigm for anti-microbial resistant foodbor... - 0 views

  •
    E. coli has been known to cause G.I tract infections for a long time, but now studies have been finding the same strain in the urinary tract as well. This is leading to a progressive antimicrobial resistance that is combining the effects of increased UTI antibiotic usage and agricultural antibiotic use against the same strain of E. coli.

Cold sores linked to cognitive decline - 1 views

The article says it may just be an interesting phenomenon. I found it interesting that the article pointed out that physical activity significantly reduces the infectious burden and cognitive decline, where if children stay physically active and maintain proper vaccination, it may decline the presence of cognitive decline.

More information about superbugs summarizing how they become resistant to antibiotics, the new classes of antibiotics created to combat them, and what we can do to prevent antibiotic resistance. In the article it listed 12 steps to prevent antibiotic resistance, where it stresses the importance of vaccinations, timely diagnosis, limiting the antibiotics being used, and "breaking the chain" (staying at home when your sick, and washing your hands).

The New Bird Flu, and How to Read the News About It - 0 views

  •
It is amazing that twitter is becoming a way for the WHO to inform people if it starts tweeting accurate information. Most time flu's seem to be either over exaggerated by media and many people do not know how to interpret a lot of the information that is being given out by places like the CDC and WHO, causing people to panic.
