Let the Words Flow - FictionPress.com - 0 views

A site on which one can publish one's fiction. The social networking aspect of the site seems to be limited to the posting of reviews. Having not yet registered an account on this site, I don't know whether or not one can screen the reviews of one's stories. As each story page seems to link to a page of reviews of the story appearing on that page, if the answer to this question is "no", then what one would have, in effect, would be a guestbook that one couldn't moderate, with all of the possibilities for abuse that creates. I don't know that's the case, but I also don't know that's not the case, so I'll set up that account in a few days and learn more. I just didn't want somebody blindly stumbling into trouble, thinking that I had checked out something that I hadn't, yet.

US Orphan Works Act of 2008 / Capwiz.com - 0 views

  •
Action site of person who posted video on Youtube of the same, alleging that copyright protection was about to be shredded for those whose works did not appear in commercial registries. There is some talk about the impact this will have on artists. What I don't see, and would like to, is the text of the bill, itself, and some supporting links. Much of this, we're asked to take on faith, which is a troublesome thing in a setting like the Internet, where we are all forced to deal with strangers. If the author is telling the truth, I hope he'll work on fixing these deficiencies in his site..

YouTube - CORPORATE THEFT - THE ORPHAN WORKS BILL - 0 views

Where I first heard about this, and it sounds like something worth worrying about, if this person is telling the truth. It's alleged to be pro-piracy legislation, stripping copyright protection from any work not registered with a commercial registry. The defenses I've heard of this bill can be summed up by the words "yes, but they meant well". Not very reassuring. Let's look into this.

Said to be a copy of said bill. I haven't yet confirmed this by checking the loc.gov site which, regrettably, seems to rely on the use of temporary pages for legislation, judging from the url I saw when I went there looking for this bill.
