This strategy and lesson is geared toward lower elementary but it has templates to use with literature response. If anyone works with lower elementary it would work really well.

Literature Response

This is a great idea for helping those students who struggle with writing because they can't think of what to write. In addition, the connective words (i.e. first, then, next) provided in the writing frames help students understand how to use words to transition from one idea to the next. The article provides the steps to create a writing frame as well as elementary and secondary examples of opinion writing frames and compare-contrast writing frames.

This page has a template for using double-entry journals. However, it also has more links to implementing double-entry journals and using KWL charts. I looked at all of the links listed and they would be awesome to use!!!!

I started using this site by posting a class discussion question and then having students reflect on the page using their IPads. What a great way to see their thinking instantaneously.

This is a great website for students to catch up on current events. Students find the articles interesting, and they are not very lengthy. I especially like the writing prompts at the bottom of the page. What a great way for students to learn about, analyze and reflect upon current events.

I chose this site because I have always found RAFT activities to be great for use in all curricular areas. Students get to a deeper level of thinking when they are prompted to connect their learning using the RAFT strategies. I also have like using the writingfix.com for many writing ideas. -Angie

We use this website regularly with our seventh and eighth graders. We always have them start here when they begin research, and we use the clipart in many of our presentations. Information can be broken down by level so the students can find the information they need on whatever level they can understand it!

I frequently visit this website for different lesson plan ideas. Rarely do I use them as they are- I usually tweek a bit for my students, but nonetheless, this is a fabulous website to help you get a jump start!

This link takes you to a document containing a graphic organizer and directions for a W2L strategy called 4-2-1 Free Write. While it's not a strategy we'll be covering in class, it looks like a good one!
