Interesting video that looks at NGO's and how they have in treated the African people that they support with their own programs that they think will benefit the people and not what the people themselves believe that they need. Also it says that one NGO in Ghana asked a girl to cry for a video they were making, in order to help raise more money, but that money did not even go to that girl/her people.

This site explores factors of poverty (as a social problem). It starts by stating the difference between a factor and a cause. A cause being that which gave rise to poverty in its origin, and a factor being something that contributes to its continuation. The five factors that this site focuses on are ignorance, disease, apathy, dishonesty, and dependency.

This article looks at two approaches to poverty removal. The first being focused on poverty as an income concept and thus removing poverty would be done through raising incomes, and the second looks at poverty as vulnerabiltiy to economic and social problems and thus focuses on social programs of education and health provision. SEWA, the Self Employed Women's Association, then goes on to give thier approach to poverty removal which is a combination of the two approaches.

It disgust me to think that parents force their children to preform sex acts to pay off their deaths.

The economic situation is affecting healthcare in Zimbabwe. Food prices are going up, making it harder for mothers to provide good nutrition for their children. There are not enough funds for supplies and personnel, and doctors and nurses cannot be paid fair wages.

Oil (and other minerals) are affecting the economic situation of African countries. Companies are getting rich, but the people are poor. Poverty is undoubtedly a cause fore the lack of healthcare access in Africa. Some solutions are offered in this article to put some of the money made from the oil back into the hands of the people that live there.

The same reason that these people are leaving Zimbabwe--the political and economic situation--is probably the reason, or at least related to the reason that African healthcare professionals are leaving their countries.
