This article talks about how the J. League, the current league for professional soccer came to Japan in 1993. There is a two division system with 28 teams who face off in league matches and for the cup tournaments. The first division, J1 has all the best players and teams who have proven they are the top competitors while the J2 league is the more developing league with top teams in J2 switching with the worst teams in j1 every year. Even foreign stars helped the popularity of soccer in Japan soar and it is now watched by almost a quarter of Japanese population.
