Alan Greenspan fights back against critics - Feb. 5, 2010 - 0 views

This is another good guy, caught in a bad situation. As it has done with many of his colleagues, the mainstream media has smeared Alan Greenspan as a scapegoat. To read about his life in greater detail is to understand this man and to see past the (to put it frankly) crap that the media often dishes out.

    What is a deregulating politician?

Basically, it is somebody who adopts a laissez-faire approach to an industry which he/she has deemed to run better without government control. In the 1970's, people began to complain about over-regulation of airlines and natural gas, resulting in decreased competition and government - controlled monopolies. This led the government to take a step back, and allow these industries to work in a free market.

Here's a term I've heard being used in the actual investment bank inquiry, and which could be used in our debate:

Fiduciary duty: a legal or ethical relationship of confidence or trust between two or more parties, most commonly a fiduciary and a principal.

For example, the investment banks have fiduciary duty to their clients to be transparent and fair in their dealings.
