Vladimir Putin has embarked on a sweeping reshuffle of Russia’s leadership, accepting the resignation of Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev and proposing constitutional amendments that would limit the power of a potential successor as president if he steps down in 2024.

The 67-year-old has in effect ruled Russia since 2000, making him the longest-serving leader since Stalin, and what he plans to do in 2024 remains the most important political question in the country.

“The main result of Putin’s speech: what idiots (and/or crooks) are all those who said that Putin would leave in 2024,” wrote Alexei Navalny, a vocal leader of Russia’s opposition.

“The president and the senators will be held accountable,” Pelosi said in a statement.

Earlier this week, Trump himself called on senators to dismiss the case quickly.

But support among a moderate block of senators for witness testimony at the trial has slowed whatever momentum there once was behind a quick dismissal. The second-ranked Republican in the Senate, John Thune of South Dakota, said on Tuesday he would be “surprised” if the Senate moved abruptly to dismiss the case. “I would bet against it,” Thune said.

All together the final Democratic presidential debate ahead of the caucuses is shaping up to be a full-throated brawl highlighting the underlying divides within the Democratic presidential primary.

Most polls have shown Biden in the lead followed closely by a regular set of three or four of his competitors: Sanders, Buttigieg, Warren and Klobuchar

The White House has just released a partial readout — which it admits isn’t a full transcript — of a now infamous call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Critics say the transcript won’t really prove anything as it isn’t a verbatim account of their call, and a whistleblower’s complaint — reportedly having to do with Trump’s conduct toward Ukraine — would be a more useful document right now. That may come out later this week.
