Pinterest for Churches (Part 1: The Basics) - Blog - Church Juice - 4 views

  • Here’s what I like about Pinterest: It’s different than the other major social media players like Facebook and Twitter.  For an organization, it’s less about pushing your own stuff and more about sharing your culture.  What makes your church unique in who it is? Or as Pinterest Co-founder Evan Sharp says, "For most consumer brands, the idea behind your brand makes sense on Pinterest." And it’s also why this social media outlet could be useful for your church.  It’s your chance to not just share yourself but share things you agree with or things that will be useful to your members or your community.

Books for "Shallow" brains "The typical person doesn't have entire weekends anymore to spend reading a book. But that doesn't mean we don't want to learn. That's why we've created FRAMES-short yet deep, digestible reads on the top issues facing Christians in today's complex culture."

VidAngel | Watch Movies However The BLEEP You Want - 0 views

  •
Shared by Pastor Rob Guenther - I've often wondered why DVD's don't have a TV edit track. You'd think it would easy enough to add a track where the foul language is edited out just like they do on TV. I'd let my boys watch some PG-13 movies if they had such a track. Well, there may finally be a solution I've been looking for... VidAngel.com offers $1 movie rentals. Well, sort of. You pay the retail price of the movie (let's say $20) to get a digital copy and they promise to buy it back (in this case, for $19) within 24 hours. (Or for a $2 "rental" fee if you get HD instead of SD.) I think it works like Red Box in that if you don't return it in 24 hours, they buy it back for $1 (or $2 in HD) less the next day until you run out of "credit" and then you eventually own it for $20. Cool program. But... what I like even better is the filter options they give. You can choose to remove sex scenes or bleep out certain language. Then it shows you what you'll see and hear and the new length of your movie. I think this could work well for youth groups as well as for individual or family uses. I think I'm really going to like VidAngel. I can still be culturally current but without putting garbage into my head. I may ditch Netflix DVD for VidAngel soon.

Why Your Church Needs Mobile Apps - Now! | ChurchMag - 1 views

  • This is why we need to rethink website ministries.  The old model was “it doesn’t matter how good your technical staff is – just get a website up.  Something is better than nothing.”  Unfortunately, that doesn’t hold much water with digital natives.  Churches that are growing know that you need a culture of excellence.  We are doing God’s work and our efforts should show that.  Nothing could be further from the truth than with website ministries.

Pinterest for Churches (Part 2: Strategy) - Blog - Church Juice - 1 views

  • It’s not just about what your church is doing.
  • It is about sharing your church culture.
  • Help with spiritual growth.  Use a board to post resources that are interesting or useful for discipleship.  Maybe it’s a study Bible, daily devotional website, inspirational quotes or whatever.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • As they engage and follow you on Pinterest, check out their boards and pins, too.  See what they’re finding.
