Electric Wheelchair For Increased Independence - 0 views

  •
Electric wheelchair is a chair fitted with wheels. The device comes in variations allowing either manual propulsion by the seated occupant turning the rear wheels by hand, or electric propulsion by motors. There are often handles behind the seat to allow for different individuals to push. Electric Wheelchairs are used by people for whom walking is difficult or impossible due to illness, injury, or disability. Disabled People who have difficulty sitting and walking often make use of a wheelbench. A basic manual wheelchair incorporates a seat, foot rests and four wheels: two, caster wheels at the front and two large wheels at the back. The two larger wheels in the back usually have handrims; two metal or plastic circles. Electric wheelchairs are propelled by a motor and battery. They are very sophisticated. They are operated with a joy stick or push buttons. Some electric wheelchairs use advanced technology and can climb up stairs, move across gravel and even raise up to give access to high shelves. Electric wheelchairs need strong frames to support the motor and battery so they are very heavy and also quite expensive. People with spinal cord injuries face similar decisions. Often a person with a spinal cord injury will use a motorized wheelchair, even though they are physically capable of using a manual chair. They don't do this because they are lazy. They do this to be more efficient with their energy reserves. People with spinal cord injuries often choose motorized wheelchairs to preserve their physical energy, so that they can complete the work. Sometimes need to save on physical energy so that have some allowance left over for intellectual or emotional pursuits. Children and Obesity: Obese Children more likely to be bullied | Woman's Health & Wellness to Thrive with Michelle Rodulfo - 0 views

  •
The results of yet another study to show what we already know has been highlighted recently in Reuters Health. Obese children are more likely to be bullied. That's sad, but not surprising, is it? Even when I was growing up, it was always the one or two "fatties" who were singled out, picked on and bullied.

Hand Care: How to Make Your Hands Beautiful and Sexy - 0 views

  •
Generally hands are the most visible parts of your body just next to the face. Yet many among us do not take care of the hands the way they look after the face. It is true that hands age much more quickly than the face. The delicate and thin skin back of the hands shows the signs of ageing more prominently than the face. In addition, many women who do the regular household work and gardening, develop the dark spots and sunspots on the hands. You must take note that hands are the most used and probably most roughly used parts of the body. So, it is no wonder that your hands look bad as the skin

5 Reasons Why Coffee is Good for Your Health - 0 views

  •
Over two billion people drink coffee everyday, yet many still believe that coffee is bad for the health. Coffee has a lot of caffeine and it has been blamed for many disorders from sleeplessness to nervousness to headaches. There are many myths about coffee and caffeine and all its evils. The most ridiculous one I heard was that it would stunt my growth if I drink too much coffee. I am only 4'11″ so my parents blamed it on all the coffee I drank when I was a child. Of course, they have not thought of the fact that no one in the family is towering over 5'3″.

What causes autism? Exploring the environmental contribution : Current Opinion in Pediatrics - 0 views

  •
Purpose of review: Autism is a biologically based disorder of brain development. Genetic factors - mutations, deletions, and copy number variants - are clearly implicated in causation of autism. However, they account for only a small fraction of cases, and do not easily explain key clinical and epidemiological features. This suggests that early environmental exposures also contribute. This review explores this hypothesis. Recent findings: Indirect evidence for an environmental contribution to autism comes from studies demonstrating the sensitivity of the developing brain to external exposures such as lead, ethyl alcohol and methyl mercury. But the most powerful proof-of-concept evidence derives from studies specifically linking autism to exposures in early pregnancy - thalidomide, misoprostol, and valproic acid; maternal rubella infection; and the organophosphate insecticide, chlorpyrifos. There is no credible evidence that vaccines cause autism. Summary: Expanded research is needed into environmental causation of autism. Children today are surrounded by thousands of synthetic chemicals. Two hundred of them are neurotoxic in adult humans, and 1000 more in laboratory models. Yet fewer than 20% of high-volume chemicals have been tested for neurodevelopmental toxicity. I propose a targeted discovery strategy focused on suspect chemicals, which combines expanded toxicological screening, neurobiological research and prospective epidemiological studies.

FDA Admits Arsenic in Supermarket Chickens | Food Renegade - 0 views

  •
Ah what a wonderful world we live in - a world where giant agricultural producers regularly feed arsenic to chickens. This, mind you, isn't how they kill the chicken. No, it's how they make them grow bigger, faster, cheaper. Administered in small amounts, arsenic is one of many compounds found in various drugs routinely administered to chickens in their feed. These same giant agricultural producers have maintained for years that the arsenic never makes its way into the actual chicken meat sold at the supermarket. It all gets pooped out! Or so they say. Yet if that's the case, then why did the FDA recently admit that arsenic does, in fact, show up in supermarket chickens?

A new Alzheimer's mouse study by researchers at the University of South Florida found that this interaction boosts blood levels of a critical growth factor that seems to fight off the Alzheimer's disease process.
