Group Social Book Marketing Project: Article2: Phych Central: Depression and anxiety am... - 0 views

Why I selected it? I selected the article on depression and anxiety, because their is alot of pressure in college and it triggers these illnesses. This article is important, because people may not know, but 45 percent of women and 36 percent of men, felt so depressed that it was difficult to function. college students deal with a unique amount of stressors. Some stressors are: a new lifestyle, friends, roommates, class schedules, finances, competition and many other items. Most students don't seek help due to embarrassment or financial reasons. Students should contact school counselor for help. parents should evaluate mental health resources just in case it may be needed for their child. There are websites to help with this issue. What I like most about it? What I liked most about this article is that information was given about the illness of depression and anxiety. This site provided other sites to get help with dealing with combat stress and evaluating yourself about the illness. I like the way this site provided information for students to go on campus to seek a counselor for mental help. It also provides information to parents about mental health counselors and encourages parents to evaluate what the college offers for mental help. This should be done before your child attends the college. What I would like to know more about? I would like to know how productive is the programs for mental health at colleges. Is the program successful or just another place for students to go to and still not achieve their goals.

Social networking's good and bad impacts on kids | KurzweilAI - 0 views

  •
Social media present risks and benefits to children but parents who try to secretly monitor their kids' activities online are wasting their time, says Larry D. Rosen, Ph.D., professor of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Rosen identifies potential adverse effects of social media, including: Teens who use Facebook more often show more narcissistic tendencies, while young adults who have a strong Facebook presence show more signs of other psychological disorders, including antisocial behaviors, mania, and aggressive tendencies. Daily overuse of media and technology has a negative effect on the health of all children, especially preteens and teenagers, by making them more prone to anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders, and making them more susceptible to future health problems. Facebook can be distracting and can negatively impact learning. Studies found that middle school, high school and college students who checked Facebook at least once during a 15-minute study period achieved lower grades. Rosen says new research has also found positive influences linked to social networking, including: Young adults who spend more time on Facebook are better at showing "virtual empathy" to their online friends. Online social networking can help introverted adolescents learn how to socialize. Social networking can provide tools for teaching in compelling ways that engage young students. "If you feel that you have to use some sort of computer program to surreptitiously monitor your child's social networking, you are wasting your time. Your child will find a workaround in a matter of minutes," he says. "You have to start talking about appropriate technology use early and often and build trust, so that when there is a problem, whether it is being bullied or seeing a disturbing image, your child will talk to you about it." Group Social Book Marketing Project article 1: Managing stress:college student stress - 0 views

Why I select it? I selected college stress, because I have had my share of stress in this semester of college. I was trying to find different ways to deal with the stress. I found it to be common in most college students. Some stress is positive and some is negative. There are several ways to deal with stress. Selecting this topic and article was a good choice for me. What I like most about it? What I like about the article on stress is it gives you different ideas about how to deal with stress. Here are some ways to deal with stress: time management, proper sleep, proper exercise, proper nutrition, finance. It was surprising to how much sleep and nutrition plays a role in stress in your body. When not receiving the proper hours of sleep, the body slows down and does not respond as quickly as it would if you slept 8 to 9 hours. Nutrition plays a role in our body and stress. Some foods are naturally energizers and some foods give you energy quickly, then they lose energy quickly and your body crashes. Be careful what you put in your body daily so that you have the energy to get through the day without crashing. What would I like to know more about? How to manage my time, when you see no more time to budget in your life. Where to find a support groups for people dealing with stress and other issues in life.

Are you really your body? - 0 views

  •
You are your body, right? You are chemical in essence ... right? At least, that's what one of America's most influential scientists claims: I am a collection of water, calcium and organic molecules called Carl Sagan. You are a collection of almost identical molecules with a different collective label.*Like Sagan, most people believe that they are their body. So if you ask them who they are, they think and respond in terms of bodily labels. "I'm Susan. I'm blond, 29 years old, a mother, and still 36-24-36!" "I'm Henry. I'm a white American male and proud of it!""I'm John. I'm a lawyer. I'm 40 years old and getting older every day.""I'm Alice. I'm a female student. I'm fat and I'm a Methodist." Name, race, age, sex, religion, nationality, occupation, height, weight, and so on-all these are bodily labels. Therefore if you consider your body to be yourself, you automatically identity yourself with such labels. If your body is fat and ugly, you think, "Woe is me! I am fat and ugly." If your body is 60 years old and female, you think "I am a 60-year-old female." If your body is black and beautiful, you think, "I am black and beautiful." But is the body really the self? Are you really your body?

This School in Assam Takes Plastic Waste as the Fees! - Gossip Ki Galliyan - 0 views

  •
Located in the breathtaking Pamohi area of Guwahati, Akshar is a very unique school which takes just plastic waste when it comes to its fees! Yes, you read that right. This eco-friendly school lets the little kids connect with the Mother Nature in a thoughtful and amazing way. Parmita Sarma, the co-founder of the school stated "We wanted to start a free school for all, but stumbled upon this idea after we realized a larger social and ecological problem brewing in this area. I still remember how our classrooms would be filled with toxic fumes every time someone in the nearby areas would burn plastics. Here it was a norm to burn waste plastic to keep warm. We wanted to change that and so started to encourage our students to bring their plastic waste as school fees". The school is a brainchild of Parmita and Mazin Mukhtar and they together founded the school in the month of June 2016.
