Losing weight is really simple: consume fewer calories than you expend. But the actuality is that for 66% percent of the Americans that are overweight or obese, this is either too difficult or they don't care. For those that don't care, there are plenty of reasons why to get in shape and lose the excess weight. Not only do studies show that you will live longer, but the quality of life is better. For those that consider it too difficult, here is a tip. Losing weight and in particular fat is much easier if you eliminate some key foods.

No doubt as a people we have made some amazing advances in technology over the last fifty years, but one of those areas that these advances have hurt us is in the foods we eat. Consider what our parents and grandparents ate fifty years ago: food that was bought fresh from the store or market and cooked in the kitchen at home. There were virtually no additives or preservatives added to that food. And in the 1960s a much larger percentage of the population was living in rural areas and growing their own food. My how times have changed.

Certainly there were some processed foods back then, but it was a very small percentage of the foods that were eaten. Today, there are estimates that the average American is consuming 78 lbs. of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) annually. That's a bit frightening. Especially considering the numerous harmful effects over consumption of this processed product causes. Our consumption of High Fructose Corn Syrup has increased from 1970s to the 1990s by 1,000 percent according to the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Other studies have found that the effect of this increase has been disastrous to our health. At the minimum the higher concentration of fructose makes it more difficult to lose body fat.

So if you are serious about losing weight and improving your health, don't eat anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup in it that goes for refined sugar as well. You might be surprised at how hard it is to find processed food that doesn't contain High Fructose Corn Syrup or some form of refined sugar in it. But if it means you don't eat any manufactured food substance, you will be far better off anyway.

Some other foods you need to avoid are hydrogenated oils and refined flours. By eliminating these over-processed foods your body will be better able to maintain the proper balance and you will find that losing body fat will be far easier than the over-sweetened over-processed diet that has resulted in an over-weight society.
