The Bamboo Project Blog: Blogging for Learning - 0 views

  • the beauty and value of many Web 2.0 tools, at least when it comes to staff development, lies in the fact that these tools encourage active content creation and engagement with learning by the participants. Good learning requires students to actively interact with the materials they are learning--to reflect and apply and use this information. Tools like blogs make this possible for individuals to do much more easily than in the past.

    Dear Victor,

Thanks for starting this thread! We could share cool ideas for the classroom here, and I've already gave two nice ideas. One little advice to help others. Every time you share links, add the url so people don't lose time looking for it or you lose your time answering them about where to find animoto and other sites.

By the way, I just love animoto! In the beginning of this year, I co-moderated a session on blogging with educators around the globe, and in our intros we added animoto. I guess it gave a nice touch and gave the idea for the ones joining us that the session would be "dynamic"!

Did you know that you can "embed" Animoto on a wiki, a blog, any webpage?

    http://animoto.com

Can you imagine then, victor, starting a composition with an animoto created by students? Then, based on their choice of images they'd develop it! Fantastic idea. I think we could start making those dreadful "compositions" into something much more fun. Another idea is to use music as to give the tone to their compositions. How? Using mixwit (http://mixwit.com) . Students create their music tapes and then write their compositions, or the other way around. They write, and then they create their tapes. Ok. I'm getting excited here! More later.

Let me know if you try any of those ideas.

Confessions of an Aca/Fan: The Informal Pedagogy of Anime Fandom: An Interview with Reb... - 0 views

  • Interestingly enough, schools often seem to discourage activities with these distributed forms of knowledge and resources, instead focusing on testing for what students have "inside their heads". However, I think it's just as important to recognize, evaluate, and help develop students' strategies for learning, collaborating, and accessing knowledge that they don't already possess, as this seems to be much more aligned with what we do as adults. I mean, I don't know all sorts of things, but I have pretty good strategies in place for finding them out.

  • experts and novices participate in the same areas and activities in affinity spaces. So, as I mentioned previously, novices aren't prevented from engaging in creative activities that they find interesting, even if these activities are challenging for them. And, through working in the same space as experts, novices are able to benefit from this exposure, by asking questions, collaborating, and by observing how experts go about certain tasks.
