Weblogg-ed » Not "The Dumbest Generation" - 0 views

  • So with the caveat that I am only halfway through Mark Bauerline’s book The Dumbest Generation, I have some early impressions to throw out there. While I think there is some merit to this side of the debate (much like Keen’s Cult of the Amateur) what really bothers me about this book so far is, as the title suggests, this sense that our kids are at fault. Let me put it plainly: our kids are not “dumb” nor is this generation “dumb” simply because they spend a lot of time in front of television screens and computers or because they haven’t worked out for themselves how to get smarter using the Read/Write Web.

Google Maps is an incredibly powerful tool. You can find places to go, view the surrounding area, and even get directions if you need them. But did you know it also has reviews? Google Business Reviews are a great way to help your customers make informed decisions before they buy from your business. If you don't have any reviews yet and would like some, or if you already have plenty but want to improve your standing with potential clients and boost sales, then this article will explain how!

How Can I Organize My RSS Feeds So They're More Manageable? - 0 views

  •
"How Can I Organize My RSS Feeds So They're More Manageable?"  I subscribe to a lot of newsfeeds, which makes me feel like I'm on top of everything on the internet-except now I'm feeling overwhelmed with all the folders and hundreds of feeds and constant flood of posts in my newsreader. I still want access to all the news and information, but what can I do to better organize it so I stay sane?

Your Brain on Books: Scientific American - 12 views

  •
One of my favorite inquiries is how the brain works with language. This book looks fascinating! "Learning to read seems to be one of the more important changes that we impose to our children's brain. The impact that it has on us is tantalizing. It raises very fundamental issues of how the brain and culture interact. "

Educational Leadership:For Each to Excel:Preparing Students to Learn Without Us - 0 views

  • That rethinking revolves around a fundamental question: When we have an easy connection to the people and resources we need to learn whatever and whenever we want, what fundamental changes need to happen in schools to provide students with the skills and experiences they need to do this type of learning well? Or, to put it more succinctly, are we preparing students to learn without us? How can we shift curriculum and pedagogy to more effectively help students form and answer their own questions, develop patience with uncertainty and ambiguity, appreciate and learn from failure, and develop the ability to go deeply into the subjects about which they have a passion to learn?

LEARNING with Mind Maps - Part 1 of Mind Maps in Education Series | The Mindjet Blog - 0 views

  •
"Although mind mapping is already used by over 250 million people worldwide (According to Tony Buzan), it is still relatively little used in schools and unknown to students and teachers. However, once students and teachers get introduced to mind mapping, they find it a fun, engaging, and motivating approach to learning, and a great tool to manage information and increase productivity. In this two-part segment of education series, I'll describe how students (part 1) and teachers (part 2) can benefit from mind maps."

Confidence - 0 views

We can also call this high self-esteem. It's not that you think you're perfect and never make mistakes. It's about being able to deal with the pressures of making mistakes, figuring out where things went wrong, and correcting the issues. Knowing how to be calm in the midst of not knowing the answer, patiently but vigorously searching, and finding the solution! Confidence ensures high levels of work. No employer wants to hire a falsely humble employee who hates themselves when making a mistake. An employer wants to know that if and when you make a mistake, or challenges arise, you will do whatever it takes to overcome that challenge and conquer it.

How to Integrate Wolfram Alpha into Science and Math Classes - 0 views

  •
What is Wolfram Alpha? It is a supercomputing brain. It provides calculates and provides comprehensive answers to most any science or math question. Unlike other search sources, you and your students can ask questions in plain language or various forms of abbreviated notation. Contrary to popular belief, Wolfram Alpha is not a search engine. Unlike popular search engines, which simply retrieve documents based on keyword searches, Wolfram computes answers based on known models of human knowledge. It provides answers which are complete with data and algorithms, representing real-world knowledge.
