Web Programming :: Challenges - 0 views

What time on the due date are the assignments due (morn, afternoon, midnight)? I anticipate getting assignments done in advance, but if ever one needed to be tweaked and resubmitted for credit I would like to know the exact time.

The last second of the marked day, EST, let's say.

My understanding is: do as many assignments as you want, or think you need to do. As for points, doing enough assignments correctly to total 100 points per module will get you an A-. An A- will be upgraded to an A if you show consistent creativity. Only those with an A- qualify for the "Creativity Upgrade". A grade of B won't do it. If I explained anything incorrectly, someone please correct me. My own take on it? Learn code because you really want to learn code, show effort, and try to have some fun with it. :)

Challenge for webprog-1-f: Submit a Recipe - 0 views

  •
For anybody who has Celiac's Disease (or just wants to go gluten-free): Here is a recipe for GF pizza crust. It's a bit long, but it bakes and it should conform to the 1-f standards. Have fun.
  •
Looks good. A couple of notes: bgcolor (in the body tag) should be all one word if you use it, though we'll be doing CSS which gives you more flexibility. Also, you make heavy use of br. BR has a specific place, and what you really should be doing is wrapping each of those paragraphs in p tags. That will make life much easier when it comes to validating your code.

Java script tutorial for the total non-programmer - 0 views

  •
webteacher.com has an excellent tutorial for learning JavaScript. It starts off saying that it is JavaScript for the non-Programmer and goes through step by step defining terms such as JavaScript, Object Oriented Programming (OOP), objects, methods, properties, events, functions, alerts, forms, buttons etc. It also has a great chapter on Loops (chapter 5). This site shows examples of code and slowly goes through step by step the structure and components of JavaScript.

Challenge for webprog-4-f: Form using PHP and MySQL - 0 views

This brings you to the guestbook for my gluten-free pizza crust page.
  •
Seems to be eating the last part of my URL. Is the VARCHAR big enough to hold big urls? Or is it something else? Be nice if the URLs were links (e.g., for the name). Nice, but unnecessary :).

This page allows one to roll two dice and have a graphic depiction of the dice rolls for each. Thanks to Professor Halavais for steering me back in the right direction!

Not exactly what I had in mind, but meets the requirement...

fake profile, etc - 0 views

  •
i know it's a little late... i've been out of pocket for the last couple days. i made a fake profile. didn't quite know what was meant by 'profile,' per say, so i made an 'about me' kind of thing for a random historic figure. the first one who came to mind was Amerigo Vespucci. dont know why! i connected the pages with the horizontal nav bar as well.

Downloading mysql-cheat-sheet-v1.pdf - Added Bytes - 0 views

  •
A MySQL cheat sheet from the folks at Added Bytes. It isn't much for specific syntax, but it gives a broad overview. Explains different types of data used in setting up your database table. Also much date and time info, functions, and some sample select queries. Gives a feel for what's involved with the PHP/MySQL combination.

Olive Juice Soaps - 0 views

This is something I've created recently. I use PayPal for the "store side" of the site. I've recieved a few orders here and there...no million dollars yet, but everything adds up (eventually). I had been using AdWords...but had to recently suspend that service due to lack of funds in my own pocket. I just registered for Google Analytics and will be sure to email you a snap shot of the screen. The "store" side is located under products.

Guestbook - 0 views

  •
This is a Guestbook for my photo site that I made back for module 2. i wanted to have the entries be displayed like a blog, with the most recent posts displaying on top of the older ones so in the SELECT.... i used the ORDER BY feature to do this. i also noticed that everytime i loaded the page, an empty posting would show up on the guestbook, so in the SELECT i had to specific WHEN something specific was happening... aka.... when the name field was filled out. that is why there is a *required next to the name input

Wheel » Blog Archive » Most popular websites running on PHP - 0 views

Generally, I tend to bookmark sites for reference and code help. This time I decided to bookmark more as an FYI. This blog gives readers an idea of how PHP is used on some of the web's most popular sites. Some of the statistics regarding lines of code for flickr are incredible.

One more php challenge - a photo gallery that uses a dropdown selection form. Both pages validate. I also placed the dropdown form on the results page for ease of use. Special thanks to Evamarie for helping me figure this one out!

Free automatic popular PHP scripts installer - 0 views

I am documenting this to keep it academically honest. I admit that the devilish character depicted on this website is disturbing.
  •
I have reached my level of incompetence as far as programming is concerned. I have to use other smarts now. Since prof has already made reference to laziness being a virtue and other folks who have kindly done this stuff before, I am now searching for sample PHP Wiki code that I can adapt for this Challenge.

Adding comment/link to timeline (4-3 at 11:40) - 0 views

Web Hosting Suggestion -- For module 4, I've added a comment to video #3 (11:40). For anyone on a very tight budget, this web hosting site is similar to NearlyFreeSpeech (PHP, MySQL support), but it's 100% free. It's been working great so far.

A Basic Validator - 0 views

  •
A no-frills javascript validator that checks for blank spaces and makes sure the correct type of character is used. Still thinking about totally foolproof email validation. Not too good for security, though, since javascript can be turned off by the user.
