Rate Your Professors - Form - 0 views

  •
I've begun to create the professor ratings page that I plan to complete for the final module. Here, I use javascript to display the form or hide the form depending on user input. If someone has javascript deactivated, those buttons do not appear (so as not to confuse them when they wouldn't work anyway). Hope you like it! I plan to build on this for the next module.

Challenge for webprog-4-f: Form using PHP and MySQL - 0 views

This brings you to the guestbook for my gluten-free pizza crust page.
  •
Seems to be eating the last part of my URL. Is the VARCHAR big enough to hold big urls? Or is it something else? Be nice if the URLs were links (e.g., for the name). Nice, but unnecessary :).

MySQL tutorial/beginners' guide - 0 views

This site seems to have some basic (read: semi-easy to understand) information written in non-geek speak. Just the basic opening paragraph explained it to me better than reading a bunch of other pages I found
  •
While by no means a complete reference, this page gives a much more thorough overview on MySQL that a lot of the other sites out there. I especially like the 'tips and functions' section.

I am documenting this to keep it academically honest. I admit that the devilish character depicted on this website is disturbing.
  •
I have reached my level of incompetence as far as programming is concerned. I have to use other smarts now. Since prof has already made reference to laziness being a virtue and other folks who have kindly done this stuff before, I am now searching for sample PHP Wiki code that I can adapt for this Challenge.

Here is my comment on the last video about forms in PHP. I found it very helpful.

Here's a video comment on this "most important segmet so far" - in which "pitch" and "catch" sail over my head. Guess that makes me the monkey in the middle.

Monster Mashing - 0 views

I don't see a Viddler video lecture in module 6 and therefore can't figure out how to do challenge 6B; but all I wanted to say was that 'Mashing' inherently makes me think of the Monster Mash and that I want to hear that song. Here's a link if anyone shares that desire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0thH3qnHTbI

Or perhaps text and video (a transcript of the video for those who prefer it)?

Angelfire.com Review - 0 views

  •
Strengths: Free to join, offers tutorials and widgets, you have access to other Angelfire pages broken up by genre Weaknesses: Once you exceed certain bandwidth, you must pay. Also, I think a page that hadn't been edited in years was deleted.
  •
Angelfire's been around for quite a while, though they haven't grown as quickly with people's needs, I think. The downside is no access to databases or programming, which for free is fine. Another upside is that it is a Lycos site, so probably (though I'm not sure) few problems with downtime or slow servers. (+10)
  •
I don't remember having problems with downtime or slow servers using Angelfire (are those the same as time out errors?); however, I could see how your additional downsides would affect advanced programmers.

FireFTP - The Free FTP Client for Mozilla Firefox - 0 views

  •
For those who have not picked an FTP client yet, this seems like a solid option. It's free, so that's a start! I had troubles with FileZilla because it said I needed Mac OS X 10.5 or newer and I'm on 10.4.
  •
FireFTP is an add-on for Firefox. It's the FPT client I'm going to use for this class. This bookmark has an FAQ for installing and using the client, which like I said before, I really need because I've never done this before.

Angelfire - FTP Uploading FAQ - 0 views

  •
This is all new to me, so I'd like to share this FAQ I found while setting up an Angelfire account. Found it helpful.
  •
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a fast, easy, and reliable way to move an entire Web site from one location onto Angelfire's servers. FTP is also a useful when moving individual files that you've built on your machine over to your Angelfire member directory. You can also back up a copy of your Angelfire site on your personal machine with FTP. The possibilities are endless! Follow the simple directions below to have your site up and running on Angelfire in no time.
