Poetry Forge has online (Flash) tools for generating instant poetry, as well as a downloadable version of the tools to use on the desktop. It's really fun to add some words to a list and then have the poetry-maker pop up your new poem. Students can learn a lot about metaphorical language here.

Although this is a science and math teacher blog, the tips and tools mentioned here are outstanding. This is a little complex, but students will catch on fast. One use, pointed out in the QR tutorial, is to create an electronic portfolio where all docs, references, video, photos, etc. can be collected and shared in one place. Connects to Twitter and Facebook, of course. Brief video tutorial on the front page, and lots of fun backgrounds and colors to play with.

Downloadable app to use Word Magnets on your own computer (requires registration). Sentences are broken up into words that can be rearranged and moved around the desktop to make poetry, re-create a target sentence, or make new sentences and punctuate it. From creating FaceBook pages for endangered species to Tweets from Abe Lincoln, virtual impersonation can be a powerful tool for learning. I recently shared a great Google Slides Instagram post template. A coworker was looking for something a bit more interactive that would allow for multiple posts, so I built a multi-slide profile/gallery template. "The Instagram template is available for Keynote, Google Slides, or PowerPoint. Students just replace the profile text (name, job/title, description, location), then begin replacing picture placeholders with images of their choosing. Each small image placeholder is hyperlinked to a separate slide for that image's post." Impersonating an historical figure or book character, et al., is a great way to really get into the content. "A little while back I saw a Netflix Template for Google Slides. It's essentially a template to replicate the screens you view when looking at episodes for a Netflix series. I immediately loved the idea of creating a Netflix series for a novel (displaying an understanding of plot, setting, characters, etc.). "The more I thought about it, the more I realized that this template could be used for essentially any subject area. Create a Netflix series for a historical event, animals/plants, etc. Unfortunately, the example I saw wasn't fully editable. I forgot about it until fairly recently and decided to build a fully customizable Netflix template based on the screens viewers see when looking at a series on Netflix."
