"iTunesU, 5-SURE and Emergency Tiles), but of special note are two major, Libraries-specific enhancements: 1. A Library "tile", which allows you to search library holdings via SearchWorks from your iPhone. 2. A Library "Places" overlay in the Maps tile. The iStanford interface looks like this (note the library tile in the bottom left corner): The Library tile takes you straight to a search box, powered by SearchWorks' index and relevancy ranking. Search results show book covers, author, title and availability. iStanford screenshot of SearchWorks search result Individual item records provide additional information, including item location and availability status, as well as links to any online versions. iStanford screenshot of map with There is also an Advanced Search option, and an "Ask A Librarian" page, with integrated email and phone numbers for Campus libraries. The new Maps tile now has a "Places" button in the bottom right corner of the screen, which provides a link to Libraries or Residential and Dining. The Libraries "place" provides a list (or map) of campus libraries. Individual library links include contact information, a link to hours, and a link to the library's web site."

"alexphrodisiac Version 1.0 - Oct 11, 2008 This app is extremely professionally done and highly useful to Stanford students. It's not the smallest campus, and the maps feature comes in handy when navigating, or to find a specific building or place on campus. The directory is also incredibly useful, and the athletics and courses features are great to have. Soon, the ability to actually register for courses will be made available on this app, and that will only further increase its utility. Great job in nearly every aspect of the app. Again, this is an absolute MUST HAVE for Stanford students. "

"At Stanford, we envision the iPhone as having a profound potential to break barriers in the way we provide information and services to students - in how they converse with the institution, their curriculum, the faculty, and each other. With an enduring entrepreneurial, innovative, and technological leadership, those same qualities that helped shape Silicon Valley, Stanford is in a unique position to chart yet another new course, this time using the iPhone. Blackboard Mobile puts campus in the palm of your hand - building43 - 0 views

""I was standing in line in a coffee shop on campus, and noticed that many people these days are using smartphones," says Kayvon Beykpour, vice-president of Blackboard Mobile. "Students are doing all kinds of things with them: they're on Facebook, checking email, making phone calls. People were doing just about everything except interacting with the university, which we thought was a bit of a disconnect. There's so many things that, as a student, you need to do every day, whether it's registering for a course, or finding your way around campus, or checking the directory or athletics scores-and they're all traditionally different places. Why not create a really sophisticated, really elegant, and really beautiful app that brings all those different services together in one place, and makes it really usable for the student, for the faculty, for the tourist? And that's what our platform does.""

"This changing expectation of students, to be 'Internet-enabled' as soon as possible and their increased use of smartphones and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices (eg iPod Touch) present new challenges for universities."
