A proposal for preloading resources bound by media queries | FT Labs - 1 views

  •
"In current implementations as of August 2012, no popular user agent pre-fetches resources that are subject to media queries until those media queries are satisfied. However, it seems like a more intelligent approach could be taken based on the liklihood that the media query may be satisfied at some point after a page has loaded. "

"Submit a URL to generate a node map of all of the requests on the page. Rapidly identify what third-parties are on your site, where your transmitted bytes are coming from and how slow your domains are !"

postscribe : Asynchronous document.write for all - 1 views

  •

Lazy loading below the fold - 6 views

  •
I've started experimenting with my home page to make it load even faster. Amazon famously does this too which you can read more about in this Steve Souders post. They make sure everything that needs to be visible above the fold is loaded first, then, it starts loading all the other "stuff" below the fold.

Zebulon Young and I, web producers at O'Reilly Media, recently spent time focusing on the performance of the Velocity website. We were surprised by the results we achieved with a relatively small amount of effort. In two days we dropped Velocity's page weight by 49% and reduced the total average U.S.

We've come quite a long way since introducing RUM about a year ago. Being the first app performance company to build real user monitoring as a core, native feature of application performance management, we are currently monitoring about 750 million page views a day, 5 billion a week and 20 billion a month for 20,000 active accounts.
