The Semantic Web | Digital Tonto - 0 views

Today we all use the web, but Tim Berners-Lee drives it.  It's his vision, uses his protocols and he presides over it at the World Wide Web Consortium.  What was a childhood obsession with connections has become a movement that has transformed the planet.Surely, Berners-Lee ranks with Gutenberg, Marconi and Alexander Graham Bell as one of the most influential people in the history of communication.  However, his predecessors stopped at one major innovation.  Berners-Lee is going for an encore. It's called the Semantic Web and he intends it to be no less revolutionary than the World Wide Web.  If successful, it will unlock the power of information stored in the world's computers.

Why Microdata, Not RDF, Will Power the Semantic Web - The Digital Shift - 1 views

  •
Twelve years ago I basically called the Resource Description Framework (RDF) "dead on arrival". That was perhaps too harsh of an assessment, but I had my reasons and since then I haven't had a lot of motivation to regret those words. Clearly there is a great deal more data available in RDF-encoded form now than there was then.

What is Web 3.0, and Why Do You Care - 0 views

  •
Is Web 3.0 just hype, or are people actually working with these technologies? Do people even understand what Web 3.0 is? That is what we endeavored to find out when in June 2011, we did a survey of about 200 people to see if they understood and were applying Web 3.0. Some of the answers we got back were expected, but we also did get some surprises.

The What Noise?: Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 - 0 views

  •
I've spent the week trying to get my head around what Web 3.0 really is. It's surprisingly difficult. Even though there has been so much written about it, and so much of the tech press has been talking about it for quite some time now. The hottest buzzword going around the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco wasn't the latest, greatest new social platform. It was Web 3.0.
