When I was only three years old, my family moved to Arizona 15 years ago. Dad had come to visit the Phoenix-area while on the company assignment. It was the summer of 1990, when Arizona reached 122 degrees!

He returned home to San Fernando Valley, California, really excited about Phoenix. He thought it was a great area, where he could afford the house of our dreams and where he could raise his family. My mother laughed, convinced that his brain cells had been prepared in Phoenix. Nevertheless, she did agree to come and visit with him these Labor Day week-end.

Gang activity and crime had increase more than 300 in the 10 years that my parents had lived in the San Fernando Valley area and, unknown to us at that time, my parents were focused on raising my sister, brother and I in that kind of environment. They'd talked about finding still another region to raise our family, but were concerned about the rising housing prices.

The Labor Day weekend came and mom and dad went on a mini-vacation to Phoenix to scout the area; my siblings and I stayed back home with grandma and grandpa. They both found the house of their goals, while on their visit and they knew they'd also found the perfect region where they could raise their children - Ahwatukee!

My parents paid a deposit on our new house and returned home to put our old house on the market. My mom's family thought my parents were crazy leaving California. They were criticized for making this type of strong and rapid decision, but my parents knew (and I agree) they'd made the correct decision.

It took us a while to go to Phoenix because my dad's job had a freeze and no one could transfer out-of his / her departments. However, we would travel to Phoenix after my father got unemployed on Friday nights and returned to California on Sunday. We did this for eight months and it was hectic, but we enjoyed it because we felt like we'd a holiday every weekend.

Finally, in August 1991, my mom told my father that she would have to move permanently to Phoenix because my sister was going to begin high school at Mountain Pointe High School and my brother needed to register for middle school. Fortuitously, my dad's company agreed to offer the transfer to him together with his family. As "Arizonans" our "official" life began on August 12, 1991.

We were all therefore excited that we could finally go on to our home in Arizona. Our house was huge, in comparison to our small home in California. All of us had our very own room and my sister and I didn't need certainly to share one bedroom anymore. We had a big lawn and an attractive swimming pool, where we spent several summers playing and swimming. Get more about Carl Chapman, Realtor by navigating to our great essay. My parents liked that people had privacy using the mountain preserve behind our garden. They also liked that we lived in a cul-de-sac and we could ride our bikes or skates without anxiety about traffic.

I don't remember a lot of my life in California anymore, since I was so young when we moved here. In my heart, I feel that Arizona is my home. Our small town of Ahwatukee is continuing to grow significantly since we moved there in 1991. It is tucked against South Mountain and we have an amazing view of the Estrella Mountains. Citizens of our region are kind and friendly. They love the outdoors and at any time, you can see people walking, jogging, riding their bicycles, skates, etc. We have readily available walking and bicycle trails throughout our neighborhood and on the mountainsides.

Our school districts for elementary and high school education are tops in the world. All of the students from the two major public high schools, Mountain Pointe HS (where my brother visited) and Desert Vista HS (where my brother and I went) graduate with honors. Those two highs schools are very aggressive and they compete in the annual football "Ahwatukee Bowl," which is really a major local annual event.

I recently heard someone examine Ahwatukee towards the imaginary little city of Mayberry of the Andy Griffith Show. I had never thought of it this way before, but I agree, after she described it. Ahwatukee includes a strong sense of community. We have a YMCA that has many plans for people of all ages. There are also several clubs for adults, adolescents and children to join, based on their private attention.

During where I've been extremely fortunate to participate for several years, including as a second grader Girls Scout Brownie Member, to last year, as a member (President) of Desert Vista's HS Key Club float, Easter, we've the Easter Parade. We also have the annual 4th of July celebration, where everyone visits the park and picnic (yeah it's hot), but the sky-lights up with the most awesome fireworks display, when night falls.

After Thanksgiving, there's a big area celebration in the park, where all the neighbors gather. There's a Santa Parade, where all the trees in the choice for a couple miles are lit up where Santa appears with all his "elves" in Harley Davidson's and participate in the "lighting ceremony,". We later have horse wagon trips round the town, where countless little smiling faces gather to see the beautifully illuminated domiciles and then end their journey at the trailhead, where they're treated with gingerbread cookies, sweet popcorn, hot chocolate and other goodies. There is also the option to simply take a tiny path stroll along the luminaries that adorn the path.

I have to express that I'm very blessed to have as my home Arizona. We live in a state, where the desert abounds, yet a number of hours away, you can be within miles of pine trees and green mountains, and surrounded by lakes, rivers and streams. Arizona may be the home of one of the Wonders of the Entire World - The Grand Canyon. It is a wonderful place, which takes your breath away, particularly if you're fortunate to be there at the great time when the sun sets!

Although I was recognized at USC in Los Angeles and UCSD in Hillcrest, I chose to remain in Arizona and attend The University of Arizona in Tucson. U of An includes a superior medical program and is a great school. I'm an entering freshman and will graduate with a degree in Physiology. I then plan to develop into a Cardio Surgeon and attend U of A's Medical Program.

I thank my parents to make the big decision to re-locate their family into a better position - Arizona - that warm summer of 1990. It was time worth waiting for, although it took us annually to help make the complete transition to your new home! It absolutely was the correct decision! I'll always say, "Arizona is my home!".
