Pokémon GO is an iPhone or Android-based augmented reality (AR) version of the popular Pokémon video game. The game is regarded as a watershed moment in the history of augmented reality gaming, as it is the first to garner widespread consumer adoption. Niantic Inc. created the new game, which runs on Google Compute and App Engine services. Pokémon was first released in 1996 for Nintendo's Game Boy device.
