This game is hugely popular with students coming into the library. I've had some great conversations with students about it. They like that swearing is banned, and that offenders will be banned from the game for a certain amount of time. A bit concerned, though, that someone posing as a younger person could sign in and socialise with young students.

Howard Gardner: 'Multiple intelligences' are not 'learning styles' - 9 views

  •
A discussion of the difference between Multiple Intelligences & Learning Styles, as well as three tips for teachers: 1. Individualize your teaching as much as possible. Instead of "one size fits all," learn as much as you can about each student, and teach each person in ways that they find comfortable and learn effectively 2. Pluralize your teaching. Teach important materials in several ways, not just one 3. Drop the term "styles." It will confuse others and it won't help either you or your students."

Why Schools Must Move Beyond One-to-One Computing | November Learning - 4 views

  •
device, I'm concerned that most one-to-one implementation strategies are based on the new tool as the focus of the program. Unless we break out of this limited vision that one-to-one computing is about the device, we are doomed to waste our resources.

Why good teachers leave teaching - 9 views

    "Why good teachers leave teaching"
  •
Interesting article. I have over thirty-five years' continuous experience as a teacher and librarian and am unemployable - I am simply "too expensive" to hire. Why spend $80,000+ on me when you can hire a graduate for tens of thousands less? I have knowledge, experience and skills that would be needed and valued by any school, but the Almighty Dollar rules nowadays. So this "good teacher" has left teaching, even though I still think I have much to offer. I am now studying in a field well away from education and planning a career in my new field. It's a shame that I have left education in this negative fashion, but I'm moving on, hopefully to bigger and better things.
