Now, a projected 62,400 Americans will choose to purchase an electric vehicle in 2012. The cheapest highway-legal EV starts around $30,000 for the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, but competitors such as Ford, Chevrolet and Nissan are all vying for a higher range and lower cost.
