Summary of current Laptop Initiatives - 1 views

  •
This was compiled by NC state's College of Education and reviews states that have current laptop initiatives in place and looks at the planning and implementation of these programs as well as student outcomes. It was interesting to read about HENRICO COUNTY in this, which is the largest school system in the United States to have deployed a 1:1 laptop program on its own. I didn't know that!

This is one of the first presentations and articles on what the framework TPACK is. The original article (pdf) is fairly long and thorough, but definitely worth reviewing.

Technology Planning Tools - 5 views

  •
This website provides a sequence of planning steps for school districts to apply when developing a technology plan and vision. This was published by the National School Boards Foundation. I thought these steps were clearly stated and easy to follow. Navigating through the website specifically this page, http://www.nsba.org/sbot/toolkit/atp.html also provided information for school leaders to consider when evaluating and assessing their districts plan which should be conducted periodically.

Interactive Whiteboards in Classrooms - 0 views

  •
I thought this was an interesting article about the rising use of the interactive whiteboards in classrooms. The use of this assistive technology has increased in the last several years. I was amazed to see that in 2008, 70% of schools in UK already had these in their classrooms. Many of our classes in Henrico have recently gotten them.

The Evolution of Classroom Technology - Interactive Feature - NYTimes.com - 5 views

  •
I thought this gave a good overview of a timeline for technology in classrooms. One fact that stood out to me was that in 1984 in public schools, there was an average of 1 computer for every 92 students and in 2008, it was 1 computer to every 4 students.
