"Either individually or as a group students might design one or more of the products or gadgets they need. Those who don't feel as if they can invent might research the patent process. They could pair with the inventors and help complete the necessary diagrams, notes and models for the invention. Budding entrepreneurs could figure out a method of earning the money to pay for the patent. The researchers could provide information about Camp Invention, Inventors Clubs of America, the Duracell/NSTA Scholarship Competition, or the Young Inventors and Creators Program. Students interested in the criminal justice system could report about scams and fraud associated with inventions and creative drawing or writing contests."

I really liked this article, I agree and am excited to have technology (computer) better understand a child learning style, speed, level... "McGraw-Hill's LEAD21 reading program, which offers a personalized and interactive experience for various reading levels. It can adjust vocabulary, concepts, word counts, font size and spacing for different grade and age levels." I wonder how personalized it is, will it learn the child's learning style and adapt to it?

Helping Young Children Develop a Healthy Media Diet - Fred Rogers Center - Blog - 0 views

I understand and agree that the 'media diet' should be looked into more closely... we are all surrounded with media, almost 24/7 .... I'm not buying the examples they give for negatives. "The TV sports program may distract the child from constructive toy play, the parent updating Facebook may be unresponsive to the child's social bids, and the teen game player is unavailable to read to his younger sibling. " Children have always had distractions, a chainsaw in the backyard, a parent on the telephone and a teenager or older sibling too busy to 'play' with a toddler... such is the life of a child... what concerns me with media is the lack of 'down-time' for imagination!!!
