This article highlights how STEM concepts and careers can be presented and taught in inclusive preschool settings utilizing the ipad. While in small, mixed-ability groups, preschoolers were provided brief instruction with apps focused on pre-engineering, math, and science content to access their ability to interact with the technology and gain an understanding of STEM concepts and careers. This article discusses the usability of ipad apps, learner outcomes, teacher perceptions, and implications for practice.

As part of a diagnosis and tutoring project in an elementary education reading course, a pre-service teacher was encouraged to use an iPad as the vehicle for intervention strategies with a fifth grade struggling reader with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The device not only helped the student focus attention, it facilitated his becoming much more metacognitive in his reading.

The participants were 122 preschool children enrolled in a rural county Head Start program in the United States during 2001-2002.

This article explores the implications of young learners' dispositions towards the use of digital technologies in contemporary early childhood settings. It is proposed that young learners have grown up in very different social conditions from previous generations, mainly through the saturation of digital technologies, in particular computers.
