aac augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices have been around for a long time, but now they are more affordable and portable than ever. Using PEC like symbols non-speaking people can use a device to communicate with others. 10 years ago these were stand alone devices that cost thousands of dollars.

This would be good for temporary situations though.
