Classical music blog - 2 views

Great music blog for keeping up with what is going on in the classical world--both performance, and music-gossip-wise.
  •
I am familiar with Alex Ross's writings on music, but I wasn't aware of his blog...good to know!

Soundation - Make music online - 4 views

  •
I love playing around with browser based music creators. I recently found this one, and it's pretty great. It's all royalty free loops and effects, and it's easy and fun. I wouldn't use it for writing music or anything I would try to promote, but it's an easy tool to get some ideas going.

OK now! Your giving me too many cool distractions, I'll never get my work done at this pace.

Kickstarter - 1 views

  •
I'm sure you've all heard of crowdsourcing by now, but it really does seem to be the intersection of social networking & artistic entrepreneurship. Perhaps this will be how everything is funded in the future ?
  •
This is great to know about...I am definitely going to explore this for projects that I am working on currently.

Texting at Concerts - 1 views

  •
Orchestras are cautiously trying texting as a way to connect with younger orchestras. They are pretty jittery about it, however, demonstrating how orchestras are loath to experiment. Still, there is a glimmer of exploration! And not every experiment works...and that's alright.

and now I've seen you also linked to wqxr... but the really have such a great, comprehensive site going on !

I'm sure everyone knows this site, but I think it goes along well with the theme--providing a platform for artists to more easily share and sell their art around the world in one place.

WQXR - New York's Classical Music Radio Station - 0 views

I didn't realize WGXR had such a well curated and in depth website. The opera articles are particularly informative, and I've bookmarked it almost immediately in my newsfeed.

Radio Paradise - 1 views

  •
Is an internet based radio station that is listener supported. Live DJ's do the programming and match the tunes to me similar to one another. But they slide smoothly through many genres in the process. You could start listening and hear "A day in the life" by the Beatles and an hour latter be listening to "Blue on Black" by Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and never be shocked by the transitions of the 15 songs in between.

Technology and Creative Writing - 0 views

  •
Because I believe that creative writing is an art, even though it is frequently left out of that category, I am posting this article on ways that technology is affecting books and writing...it covers several different areas of e-publishing and other electronic delivery methods for poetry, short stories, longer works, essays, etc... The article also mentions diigo.

An interesting if somewhat arcane article on the nature of digital art and whether it changes basic understandings of what we even consider art and how we evaluate it as such.

Digital Stories on Orchestra Website - 1 views

New Zealand Symphony is making really good use of technology. Their website features digital stories about the conductors, musicians, composers, etc...and it is done really well. Much more interesting than most orchestra websites.

Technology is a game changer in home-viewing - 1 views

  •
This is not surprising. I would say my 21 year old son is a "never-cord." Perhaps not entirely, but pretty much. I still watch television: HBO and a few other cable shows and news broadcasts, also PBS from time to time, but I have always thought televisions were eyesores, and cable subscriptions are outrageoulsy high...but you really can stay relatively current with Netflix.
