Through the Education Leaders Institute, the National Endowment for the Arts will convene decision makers from several states to develop coordinated state arts education strategies to design public education with arts at the core. Rocco Landesman, former head of NEA, delivers a wonderful speech explaining why the arts are so important and why they need to be included in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education.

A useful listing of apps related to the Arts and education for all age levels. I personally have used the Musee du Louvre app listed in the article and found it very useful when traveling to Paris, or just for reliving the visit to the Louvre. This site deals primarily with the fine arts, but is useful for anyone interested in the subject of art.

University of Wisconsin-Madison offers summer classes for students completing grades 5-8 that integrate technology with the arts. It's great that people are beginning to realize that technology and the arts can complement each other, and are offering these kinds of classes to such young students. I wish I was young enough to take some of them!

Interesting site with a lot of information. Also the Pew report affirms what I am seeing happening in the organization where I work: The Memphis Symphony. I would love to see more technology used in performances and in education, but funding is an issue, as well as a unified institutional vision as to how to integrate technology into the aesthetic aspects of what we do. Marketing is already making use of technology.

I.D.E.A.( for Innovation, Design, Education and Art) is planned to be a community in San Diego that will cater to artists, engineers, scientists, etc. It will be focused on creating new art and technology and will be completely sustainable for living.

I recently stumbled upon the University of New Mexico's interdisciplinary program in Art + Technology. They describe it as such. " The program fosters an atmosphere of radical creativity and thoughtful engagement with emergent and established technologies. Students are expected to make work that comments on, engages with, and expands our notions of what technology based art can be through courses that explore high tech immersive environments alongside consumer electronic hacking and simple analog circuit building. Labs are equipped with industry standard software as well as free open source analogous software options. Studio production is coupled with critical inquiry into the relationship between art, technology, politics, society and culture."
