Attract students to libraries and other rooms of learning by creating agile, inviting spaces with makerspace elements and, most importantly, a community feeling.

by Grant Wiggins, Authentic Education I recently visited Thetford Academy in Vermont (one of the few and interesting public-private academies in New England) where they have a formal and explicit commitment to "experiential learning." So, the leaders of the school asked me to visit classes that were doing experiential learning and to talk with staff at day's end about it.

Networking is a prime form of 21st century learning. The world is much smaller thanks to technology. Learning is transforming into a globally collaborative enterprise. Take for example scientists; professional networks allow the scientific community to share discoveries much faster.

As a chief technology officer or director of technology, probably one of the toughest challenges you face isn't keeping up with the technology, but rather understanding how to leverage it for your organization. While in the past, we were limited by the occasions that served as "learning experiences," in the 21st century, learning isn't restricted to a special event bound by time and place.

Think about this in terms of libraries: "Art and history are something you do, not just something you learn about. By inviting people to actively participate with us in co-creating programming, we empower them as creative agents, cultural producers, and people for whom the museum is a relevant, compelling partner. Being a strong community hub requires bringing people together across difference, encouraging bridging experiences instead of targeting a specific audience. When we work with diverse collaborators, from opera singers and ukelele players to knitters and graffiti artists, we catalyze new partnerships and relationships that make our community stronger and more cohesive. We believe in fearless experimentation. It is only by trying things out, challenging our assumptions, and analyzing the results that we can adapt and thrive in a changing world."

February 28, 2015 Gaming is a growing trend in the 21st century learning paradigm and you don't need to look hard to see the evidence. Digital and video games take up a big part of the lives of our digital natives, and of course, as is the case with every 'new technology' doubtful and cynical voices are the first to be heard.

This image gets to the heart of many of the future ready inititives we work with staff to run. I think this might be a great way to talk with administration and teachers about the common goals we have in education.
