Comics and technology - 0 views

This quick and easy comic shows us how easy we can incorporate comics into the classroom as a fun and inventive way for students to express themselves.
  •
I like this example because it makes comic strips seem easy, something I always thought would be a challenge. This could be a great activity for high school or middle school students.

James Loewen actually came to Allen last year and I hope you guys had a chance to listen to him. He knows a lot about education and even more on segregation and desegregation and the real truth behind them. Here, he exposes some of the lies in textbooks. Take that Texas!

Sex Ed - 0 views

South Park is edgy and controversial as usual, and although this isn't strictly English related, I think it really helps point out how we take education. Too often we push things too far or not enough. Sex Ed is important but how important is always a pertinent question as with the debate between any curriculum.

This film looks at students from America, China, and india. It clearly shows the extreme differences between American culture and Indian and Chinese culture, especially in respect to education. Now we know why the stereotype "Asians are always so smart" exists.

The The Impotence of Proofreading - 1 views

Although this is sometimes a little inappropriate (as always with Taylor Mali) it hits on a very important topic that we will look at as English Teachers - Proofreading. Pretty much all of Taylor Mali's poems has relevancy and maybe you've seen this or others, but I definitely think it's worth checking out again!

Taylor Mali is funny and edgy as always but he targets a very important topic for English teachers: proofreading.

Schools Kill Creativity - 0 views

  •
We all want to be teachers, but I think this helps us look at what kind of teachers we want to be. I know I don't want to be another bland, boring teacher who just goes by the books. Ken Robinson helps us see what schools do stop stop us reaching our full potential and why we need more creativity and arts - things that students will be passionate about in class - in the classroom.
  •
Ken Robinson describes how schools are killing creativity and most importantly highlights why it is so important in our futures. He urges us to maintain creativity in our curriculum so English teachers, please do your part to keep it.

Stroke of Insight - 0 views

I think this Ted talk really helps us rethink the way our minds work. It also helps reconstruct our ideas about people whose minds work completely differently, like kids that may struggle in school. It pushes us to think about right brain thinkers vs left brain thinkers, and why we need a better balance for both.
