This is an image of the Anglo-Zulu war in action ,it shows how the British had horses and guns and how most Zulu people relied on the use of arrows and spears.
Some Zulu warriors also had guns but their had poor training and the quality and supply of their gunpowder was dreadful. Zulus saw the use of fire arms as a cowardly act because it enabled you to kill your enemy without awaiting attack.
This source explains how the Zulu people started using firearms from the 1820s and the efforts made by Zulu troops to enclose their enemy which included the use of spears and fire arms
Because Cetewayo, the Zulu king refused to comply with orders from mayor-general H.Clifford he returned his cattle and ordered his soldiers to keep watch of the Zulu troops and monitor their moves. When the Zulu troops moved and dispersed across all sides Clifford also prepared for war. The war started and Zulu troops were defeated after 30 minutes with a thousand of their ten thousand men killed, but the war was from over.
