Google Glass, like the Segway, is what happens when Silicon Valley spends too much time talking to itself. Maybe that's even overstating the case: The rhetoric around Google Glass is what happens when important tech people spend a little too much time congratulating each other.

Early this morning teacher Don Wettrick found out he's among 8,000 chosen to get a pair of Google Glass - voice activated, Internet-connected eyewear that can be used to film videos, browse the Web or see maps transposed on streets. A pair of the slim glasses will become part of Wettrick's innovations course in the Johnson County school district. Students will test out the glasses and come up with new applications.

"The target for this test was to see if the video footage that is being delivered adds to the cameras that are already in the operative theatre. Due to the fact that one can almost literally look through the eyes of the surgeon, medical students and colleagues can view the same perspective, instead of the fixed camera points or to watch over the shoulder of the surgeon.
