You have two technology tools under your belt: Diigo and Twitter. It's time to move on to tool number 3-blogs.

Personally, I think one of the most profound thing Richardson says in his book is the bit about Blogs and the difference between blogging and journaling-" …blogging is a genre that engages students and adults in a process of thinking in words, not simply an accounting of the day's events or feelings."

You've read both chapters two and three on blogs. I'd like you to take a look at the following two videos (one from the students' perspective). Joy has also bookmarked a handy site on blogs you may want to check out.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrJB1QOEWL4 (blogging in education)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfJETK3am1M&feature=related (top reasons students like blogs)

Then I'd like you to blog about blogging. That is, let's start by networking our thinking. In a reply, talk about how can we use blogs in the classroom? What problems might we run into? And/or any other thoughts/concerns you may have on blogs?

    Homework: create a blog. I recommend wordpress---http://www.wordpress.com

As long as the teacher has control over content...

Since writing is not my #1 teaching priority, I'm having trouble justifying the time a blog will expect from me. I'm thinking 'Twitter" is a quicker way for me to collect reflective thought and send out references. I spent A LOT of time this summer learning about Twitter, I built a "netvibes" website and am trying to keep up with Google Calendars with my courses. I am failing at keeping up. I would want to be careful about what I'm posting permanently and fear a blog would bog me down even more.

I am so cool now, Koreen!
the thing I liked about blogs, well.........there are a couple....liked the whole online file cabinet and E-portfolios. Counselors are looking at adopting 4 year plans................we are currently looking at paper.......but not so sure now.................I'll keep you posted. I like the online file cabinets because a lot of students have organizational issues. This is perfect...........no more excuses. Students who "lose their work" can go to the teachers file cabinet and get the work. Students have no excuse about losing their work..........it gets posted now!!!!
