Semi-Submerged Eco Luxury Home - Trilobis 65 (GALLERY) - 0 views

  • We’ve seen all sorts of cool homes on Trend Hunter, like tree houses and shipping container homes. We’ve also seen a rising obsession with aqua culture, so it’s neat to feature something that combines the two with this extreme house boat concept, the Trilobis 65.

According to CRU's forecasts presented at the 9th World Copper Conference in Santiago, global copper consumption in 2009 is expected to fall by 2 to 3 million tonnes. This represents a 15-20% y-o-y plunge compared with 2008. The severe contraction is attributed to the global economic crisis and the freefall that many industries, such as the automotive sector, have experienced. In the first two months of 2009 total consumption of copper and copper alloy semis declined by 32% y-o-y, while that of copper wire and wirerod fell by 25% y-o-y. In the same period, insulated wire and cable decreased by 30%.

Japan Metal Daily reported that Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd.'s construction of new automotive wiring harness manufacturing facilities will be ongoing until April 2012. This follows a press release from Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. in February 2011 detailing the company's proposals for new wiring harness production facilities in Vietnam and China. The February announcement states that the company's Vietnam-based production will increasingly supply Japan and the US, whereas Chinese production will serve local needs as well as demand from Japan and the US. The new Vietnamese factories were originally intended to begin operations in October 2011, whereas the start date outlined for facilities in China was June 2012.

China - Refined copper and semis imports surprisingly strong in January - 0 views

  •
Chinese imports of refined copper and copper products increased to 364,420t in January 2011. The numbers surpassed earlier expectations based on the closed arbitrage window and the Chinese New Year festive season. Imports were up by 5.7% from December 2010 and 24.7% from January 2010. The fact that Chinese copper buying was stronger than expected in the last three months implies that tightening monetary policies had little impact on copper demand.

New Method Used to Synthesize Cu-Based Nanocomposite - 0 views

  • In this research, we added silicon carbide powder of micro and nanoscales to copper by means of friction stir processing in order to reinforce its strength and resistance to surface erosion.
  • "It is possible to increase the strength base and resistance to erosion up to 3 times and 10 times respectively with respect to the material substance. It is also possible to give properties such as semi conduction or other physical properties to the desired material with regard to its application," he added, explaining about the results of the study.
