Anglo American announces a significant and high quality new copper prospect at Los Sulfatos in Chile, near its existing Los Bronces copper operation, with an Inferred Resource of 1.2 billion tonnes.

"The move to acquire the assets would deal a blow to Anglo, which has invested $2.8bn in an expansion of the Los Bronces mine. The expansion, which will more than double output at the mine to about 490,000 tonnes per year, is due to start production in the last quarter of this year."

Rio Tinto has signed two exploration joint venture agreements with CODELCO's 100% owned subsidiary, CCM Los Andes, in Chile. These agreements follow the first exploration joint venture agreement signed between Rio Tinto and CODELCO in January 2008. CODELCO is the world's largest copper producer.

Like Inca Pacific, Southern Copper Corp, Candente Resources, Strike Resources Ltd and Newmont Mining Corp (NEM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) have complained of having to reexamine or delay their projects in Peru because of the global crisis. Southern Copper has said plans for its Los Chancas would be evaluated, and that it may consider dipping into dividends for project funding.

Sul filo di lana, nel corso dell'ultima discussione in merito al decreto Milleproroghe, il senatore del Pdl Salvo Fleres ha presentato un proprio emendamento che prevedeva lo stop incondizionato al rilascio di nuove licenze per le parafarmacie e il contingentamento di quelle già aperte ad un parametro d'abitanti (una ogni 20mila abitanti) tale da determinare la chiusura della maggioranza degli esercizi aperti con il decreto Bersani. (poposta che non ha trovato seguito per la presentazione da parte del Governo di un maxiemendamento).

"The Chilean government has set its sights on significantly increasing its geothermal energy capacity. The Ministry of Energy recently announced a new contract for the development of 20 areas by 2012. 70 bids from 13 domestic and foreign firms were submitted for the rights to exploit the newly released regions of Rarapacos and Los Ricos. Earlier in the year, Energy Minister Ricardo Raineri announced more than 170 concessions for geothermal energy by 2012. He further specified that these concessions would be supported by US$200 million in funding from the government. The country is striving to increase its geothermal capacity to 1,000 megawatts in order to meet an ever-growing energy demand in a sustainable manner"
